Self professed “all American German”, Carlotta Kohl is the true embodiment of the colloquial multi-hyphanete. She’s an artist, photographer, director and model. Born in Germany, but New York bred, Carlotta found herself immersed in the creative world at a very young age as her parents were both models and photographers respectively. Her exposure to this afforded her the unique ability to understand the process of making images from different standpoints.
She understands the symbiotic balance and collaboration it takes between model and photographer to create powerful imagery. This grants her a special skill when behind the lens and in front. Throughout all the mediums she explores, Carlotta’s knack for capturing and conveying the boundless parameters of human intimacy is a constant, and her uncanny use of color and soft retro undertones have become ubiquitous to her work.
At 17, Carlotta moved to NYC where she attended the School of Visual Arts, majoring in photographic studies. This is when she fell in with a unique cast of downtown artists; collaborating on group shows in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Paris; She's been lauded part of the “new exhibitionists” and served as muse for artists like Ryan Mcginley, Petra Collins and Mario Sorrenti in profiles by Vogue, W and i-D magazines, The Cut, Fashionista, Refinery 29 and Coveteur, all of whom are fascinated by her art work, her personal style and her world travels.
Carlotta eventually ventured into the world of fashion starring in campaigns for numerous designers like Cavalli, Gap and Juicy Couture. She’s appeared in editorials for Vogue, Italian Vogue , V magazine and CR fashion Book and walked the runway for Alberta Ferretti and MaxMara under Carine Roitfeld’s guidance.
Combining her photographic knowledge and experience modeling, she’s taken self portraits for publications such as L’Officiel Paris, L'Officiel Hommes and Jalouse and and partnered with brands including Tiffany & Co , Gucci, Ganni, Coach, and Solid and Striped. Other photography credits include cover stories for Numero Tokyo, L’Officiel US, Playboy; So it Goes Magazine and work for clients like Miu Miu, Alberta Feretti and Free people.
As a Director, Carlotta was nominated for a VMA for her music video with the band “Bleachers”. Always curious and multi-disciplinary, Carlotta has also ventured into the world of fashion design, collaborating on a namesake collection for the brand Beltology where she also directed a video campaign and photographed still imagery.
