The average size of the human mouth is about 50 millimetres wide. People with bigger head tend to have bigger mouths
Used to cut and grind food by the use of teeth. Food is chewed and becomes soggy in order to be swallowed.
Esophagus
About 25 centimeters long, from 1.5-2 centimeters wide.
Connects the throat to the stomach
Uses a muscular wall to push food into the stomach
Stomach
About 25 centimeters long, can expand to hold more food.
The digestive system helps the body break down food, so nutrients can be used for cell repair, growth and energy. The digestive system is also responsible for storing and excreting solid wastes.
PANCREAS
The Pancreas is about 15cm long depending on the size of the human and is on the right side of the abdomen,
The Pancreas is a large gland behind the stomach. It serves two purposes it releases digestive enzymes in to the small intestine to help with digestion. It also releases insulin and glucose into the blood stream
GALLBLADDER
The Gallbladder is about is about 9 cm long depending on the size of the human
What is the Gallbladder used for, it is used to help the digestion of fat and makes bile more concentrated to increase it effects on fat cells
Where is the Gallbladder located? It is located on the right side of your abdomen just below the ribs.
LIVER
The liver is about 7 cm long in a woman and 10 cm long in a male.
The liver produces proteins that helps blood clot It also break down old or damaged blood cells and fats to produce energy.
The Large Intestine
About 1.5 meters long and 5 cm thick depending on the size of the human
The large intestine performs the vital task of absorbing water and vitamins while converting digested food into feces.
The Small Intestine
The small intestine in an adult male is about 7 meters long
The small intestine is of the gastrointestinal tract between the stomach and the large intestine, it is where most of the food gets absorbed. The small intestine has three regions – the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum
Appendix
About 11cm long and has a radius of 6mm
The Appendix is located in the lower right abdomen, the function of the appendix is to store good bacteria.
Rectum
About 15cm in length
The Rectum is the final part of the large intestine and finishes at the anus, the Rectum is where the faeces is held before it is pushed out through the anus
