Kee van der Meer (1995, Haarlem) is a Rotterdam-based video and documentary artist. Working both intuitively and conceptually, Kee's work presents unique perspectives and highlights the complexities of human expression. Inspired by the raw emotional energy, she draws inspiration from the poetic lyrics of rap music, which resonate deeply within her work. Additionally, her exploration extends to the intriguing world of reality TV, where she finds inspiration in the highs and lows of human experiences. She is also captivated by the bond between humans and animals, finding creative fuel in the fascinating behavior exhibited by both. This connection adds another layer to her work.

Driven by a desire to push boundaries and create immersive experiences, she crafts captivating video installations and thought-provoking films. Anger and communication are two elements that are ever present in her work, reflecting the raw emotions and complexities of the human experience.

Kee's work has been displayed at venues such as 'het HEM' and the Melkweg, where she invites audiences to delve into her world and experience the profound stories she uncovers.

Noah Arends' (1996, Amstelveen) work stems from a fascination for what is considered tastefuand what is considered bad taste. Her works balance between stylish monumental objects and somewhat playful characteristic images. The work may seem flat at first glance, but who looks closely will be surprised: the work is layered where it’s not expected and flat where it appears to have depth.

Images of fashion photography surround us everywhere in daily life. Arends’ work seeks interaction with these images, stripping them of commercial character, but retaining their typical aesthetic elements. The primary material is transformed into original, autonomous works.

From collected fashion photographs, Arends makes compositions, which are subsequently scanned, digitally edited, and printed on textiles. Finally, the naturally limp and shapeless prints are given (three-dimensional) form, by being stretched over a frame or wooden sculpture. In this process, fashion images are taken on a journey through different materials: pictures of fabric, printed on glossy magazine-paper, return to their original material: textile.

Daisy Madden-Wells (1992, London) is a multidisciplinary artist and musician from South London. She studied Fine Art Drawing at Camberwell College of Arts, before completing the Masters of Artistic Research at The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, graduating in 2019.

Her practice stems from a deep fascination with the language of decorative symbolism, often presenting as the bestial or animalistic. The beast is a linguistic character, or glyph, that has acted as messenger throughout history. It is a proxy for something we ourselves cannot utter, despite the dominance of language. Madden-Wells wields these characters to compose new meanings and possibilities.

Through sculpture, drawing, painting and film she proposes alternate and imagined histories, mythologies, and sentimentalities: referencing heraldry, medieval art, stone monuments, religious iconography, psychedelia, and 1930s animation. Materially, her current focus is on paper mache, an ancient practice associated with storytelling, folkloric costume, and recreation — the great pretender of craft technique.

Jhonie van Boeijen (1992, Nijkerk) grew up between packages and price tags due to the fact that her parents own their own toy store. Ever since she was little she has always been attracted by the colors and the designs of the products and how they can hypnotise you to need that specific item. As she grew older she started noticing this attraction in other stores too but mainly in supermarkets. In recent years Van Boeijen developed a great interest in psychology, sociology and philosophy about consumerism, but also interests in gastronomy, nutrition and food psychology.

Via her paintings she aims to engage in a conversation about individuality and identity through consumerism, but also would like to give the possibility to look at consumerism from a different angle. The works show the role of consumerism in our daily lives and how quickly we can feel the impact of international events in our shopping carts. How does social media influence our food culture with rapid changing food trends and how does this impact our demand for new innovative products? What does this innovation mean to the design of these products and is it possible that we can use this to point out and document a specific era in time.

Within the products that we purchase we can tell more about the individual buying these items than what is for dinner that night. Products can tell us very personal things about the consumer, what is their background, financial status, diet, how sustainable the consumer is and even how many people the household consists of. In this way, we can look at products like a kind of personality traits that eventually will form portraits of the consumer.

"Christina de Korte (1997, Meliskerke) is a passionate collector, a tendency she developed as the child of a father who was always travelling and bringing home objects, souvenirs and stories of faraway places and cultures. The collections that amassed at her parent’s home have been a starting point for her own practice. De Korte began by photographing the cabinets, drawers and boxes stuffed full of curiosities and everyday objects, which she made into a book entitled Thuis, the Dutch word for “home”. The artist then translated this fullness to her studio, which resembles something of a stall at a textile market. The many paintings in her installation zoom in on details from scenes all around her, for instance pieces of Vlisco textile or a photograph taken at a crowded market in Zagreb. The installations of De Korte submerge you into a visual explosion of colors and visual motives as if everything is in motion and restlessly finding its way towards you, vying for your attention." - Yoeri Guépin

Besides her art practice, Christina de Korte is learning Arabic and is delving into “non-Western” art forms, religions, textile and history. The combination of working in her studio and doing research reinforce each other. From August 2022 until mid-April 2023 she lived in Egypt to learn the Egyptian dialect, take various courses about local techniques and work as an artist in residence in Caïro. All the work shown at Springboard Art Fair is made during her stay in Egypt.
