ASPIRE to Great Teaching

The ASPIRE (Active Strategies for Pedagogy in Research and Education) Workshop is a half-day pre-conference that provides practical guidance for beginning, or continuing, an active pedagogy research agenda that will the enhance education of students and support the career advancement of faculty. The workshop will include a variety of panels that explore the state of pedagogy research in journalism and mass communication disciplines, methods and best practices of conducting various types of pedagogy research, breakout sessions to collaborate on pedagogy research topics, and how to successfully leverage pedagogy research for career advancement. The workshop will conclude with presentations from the Public Relations Division Great Ideas for Teaching (GIFT) Competition.

The ASPIRE Workshop registration fee is only $20 and is open to all AEJMC members.

AEJMC Health and Safety Guidelines Update (June 14, 2022)

"To promote the health and safety of attendees at the 2022 AEJMC Conference in Detroit, masks WILL BE REQUIRED in all conference locations, including paper, panel and scholar-to-scholar/poster sessions; meeting rooms; and exhibition spaces. We expect attendees to be vaccinated and boosted, if eligible. We strongly recommend the use of N95/KN95/KF95/FFP2 masks."

The State of AEJMC Pedagogy Research

1 - 2 p.m. ET

What is the state of pedagogy research in journalism & mass communication disciplines? This panel will explore the trends of pedagogy research in all journals published by AEJMC divisions and interest groups. Editors of Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, Journal of Advertising Education, and Journal of Public Relations Education will share their perspectives on where pedagogy research stands and emerging opportunities for its future with AEJMC.

Best Practices of Pedagogy Research

2:10 - 3:30 p.m. ET

Many new and emerging pedagogy scholars are excited about the science of teaching but have little training about how to successfully conduct this type of research. Panelists will discuss different categories of pedagogy research, best practices for conducting theoretical and evidence-based pedagogy research, and how to craft successful conference and journal submissions.

Leveraging Pedagogy for Tenure & Promotion

3:40 - 4:40 p.m. ET

How can the pedagogy community support a new generation of scholars? This panel will discuss the opportunities and challenges of creating an active research agenda that integrates pedagogy. Topics might include misperceptions about pedagogy, how to address those biases, and sharing successful strategies to positively position pedagogy for the tenure and/or promotion review.

GIFT Presentations

5 - 6 p.m. ET

Great Ideas For Teaching (GIFTs) are successful, class-tested assignments, in-class exercises, or teaching approaches that benefit students and instructors. GIFTs are tied to course learning objectives and contemporary public relations theory or practice and stem from traditional and non-traditional classroom settings.
