TENC Newsletter December 2021

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

In our final newsletter for 2021, we would like to begin by thanking all parents and carers for their continued support, and to welcome Miss Blick as our newly appointed Administration Manager for TENC. Thank you to everyone who attended the Year 13 virtual Parent Evening and submitted feedback to our survey. If you would still like to submit feedback please click here.

It has been a busy term with students submitting their UCAS applications and attending mock interviews as part of their preparations to continue their journey after TENC. BTEC exams and mock 'A' level exams start in January, timetables of which can be viewed here.

Students have participated in a number of charity fundraising events and enrichment opportunites, details of which can be found below.

TENC will close to students after Period 2 on Friday 17th December and will re-open to students on Wednesday 5th January. We would politely remind all students to conduct a Lateral Flow Device (LFD) test before returning to college either the evening before, or on the morning of 5th January 2022. Please do not return to college if your LFD test is positive or you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19.

As we break up for the Christmas Holidays, we would like to wish all our students and their families a healthy and very Happy Christmas and New Year.

Outstanding 6th Form News

At the end of November in Rushden Academy our Year 12 and 13 students took part in a Coding workshop run by FUZE. This is a coding application for Nintendo Switch. It has been designed and developed by a team of experienced gamers, programmers, artists and educators. The end result is a language ideally suited to coding games and apps for absolute beginners and seasoned programmers alike. Ours students really enjoyed their coding experience and it has given them something to think about when planning their post 18 routes.

Grace commented:

“We did a coding master class, where we learnt the basics of code and then furthered our knowledge on to making our own coded quiz. We used a Nintendo switch and the technology of FUZE to make these fully interactive quizzes, we also talked about the careers in coding and the paths with coding you can take outside of school. It really opened my eyes into the coding world and allowed me to realise the paths you can take, even without having previous knowledge or ideas of coding and the many different directions coding can take you.”

Oxbridge Candidates – Support and Interviews

In September, Oxbridge applicants and their parents from The Ferrers School were invited to Sharnbrook Academy for an information and guidance evening with Dr Hugh Munro of Wadham College, Oxford University and Amber Cuttill of Pembroke College, Cambridge University. They have since worked hard for their admissions tests and all three have been invited for interview, which is an excellent achievement within itself. On Friday 3rd December, the students were visited by Mr William Thallon, who supported the students to prepare for their interviews, which have started this week. We are looking forward to hearing how the interviews go and have everything crossed for them. Well done to our applicants for your achievements so far – we are incredibly proud of you all and know that you will smash those interviews!

6th Form Career 'Speed Dating' Event

Last week at Rushden Academy we hosted an informative and exciting Careers 'Speed Dating' event, facilitated by Northampton University for our Year 13 students.
