Nintendo is a family friendly brand who's most recent focus as been the Nintendo switch. The purpose of the switch is to be able to play video games on the go or at home. It is the first modular gaming device that covers the most basic needs of a gamer, being able to play wherever and whenever you want.

I am focusing my display on an amiibo. An amiibo is a small statue that uses NFC (near field communication) technology to communicate with the newest Nintendo gaming devices to provide in game content. In the example above, the game is Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The player has their Wolf Link amiibo and taps their nintendo switch with it (left). From there, Wolf Link appears in the game and helps you on your adventure. This is only possible if you have the amiibo.

Amiibos do different things in different games. The amiibo I am focussing on is Corrin Player 2, from Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros is a fighting game by Nintendo that incorporates characters from different games across the Nintendo franchise. This includes characters from Mario, Pokemon, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Fire Emblem, to name a few.

I want to focus specifically on a character from the Fire Emblem franchise.

Corrin is the main character of Fire Emblem Fates. The premise of the game is that Corrin is trying to peacefully end a conflict between her adoptive family and her birth family, which are at war with one another. She has to choose a side, which ultimately determines the story of the entire game.

Corrin is a dragon princess, which in its own right is very fascinating and is was peaked my interest in her character both in the Super Smash world and the Fire Emblem world. However, perhaps the most unique aspect of Corrin is the fact that a female amiibo of her was released along side the male amiibo. In the past, characters that can be played as both male and female only had a male release of the amiibo. However, her release was poorly done and I want to design a display for her specifically.

The Display

Final Concept:

After plenty of feedback and exploration, I finally decided on the concept of the display being Corrin's dragon. The purpose of this is to attract customers to the display and provide a glimpse into both the Super Smash Bros world, and the Fire emblem world.

I found a sprite of Corrin's dragon form and modeled various pieces of the mock up after it. I later traced the pieces in Solidworks to bring this dragon to life in the display

This counter display holds 8 Corrin amiibos and creates a stage for both Corrin and Fire Emblem to be welcomed into the video game world.

This display would be made of acrylic and vinyl.

The platform shelving would be clear acrylic, since it is the only piece of the display not modeled off of the original Corrin dragon. Keeping this piece clear adds to the illusion of a dragon, not just a display.

Since the wings and tail do not have a structural purpose, they will be made of vinyl, a light and thin plastic that can be easily manufactured
