Airport Operations Team 2022 Summary

North Metro Fire Station 65 adjoins Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (RMMA) and is the specialty station for airport and aviation firefighting operations.

In 2022, North Metro Fire participated in and helped teach live burn training and victim extrication training with RMMA firefighting partners to help enhance emergency response preparedness.

The Airport Operations Team also enhanced their own skills through participation in Denver Fire’s 40-hour Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) course—a nationally recognized class instructing on standards set by the National Fire Protection Association and Federal Aviation Administration.

In 2022, North Metro Fire was awarded grant funding for the next two years to send 12 additional firefighters through Denver Fire’s ARFF course at Denver International Airport.

North Metro’s Airport Operations Team responded to 23 airport alerts in 2022 involving airplanes with mechanical issues, including a plane crash off the airport property in the Interlocken area.
