Champion for Students FFA Advisors Jaimee Brentano and Jeff Papke

Mountain View High educators Jaimee Brentano and Jeff Papke were named Champions for Students during the May 10 board meeting.

These two serve as advisors for the renowned Bend FFA program, which currently includes more than 180 students in high schools throughout the area. It’s just a huge program that supports the growth and development of so many students.

FFA is about agriculture, yes, but it’s also about leadership, about public speaking, about teamwork. Our program here does not do anything in half measures. Go to the classroom where the team meets and you’ll see a room absolutely jam-packed with banners showcasing all of the program’s state titles and wins. It’s incredible to see.

Or take this week - when the program is preparing for its annual banquet. This is no ordinary banquet - from the smoked pork to the metal awards - everything is designed by students.

A true measure of Jeff and Jaimee's dedication and impact comes from their students.

Olivia Rooker, pictured here, is a senior and president of the chapter calls the FFA classroom “like a home to me” and says Mr. Papke and Ms. Brentano are a huge part of that, saying “they are like second parents to me.” “They play a huge role in my life and are the wisest people I know. They are so open and willing to help you to learn and grow.”

Olivia says you two have helped create a warm environment where everyone feels welcome, whether they come from a farming background or are just interested in learning more. She’s far from alone, many students shared they feel welcome, inspired, encouraged and developed confidence in the program.

Jaimee and Jeff, thank you both for your service to the FFA program. Thank you for building such meaningful experiences for students, where they are able to shine and grow. We applaud you both.
