Term 2B Week 4

On Tuesday, we went on our trip to Washington Wetlands. This term in science we have been learning about ‘Living Things and their Habitats’. Our trip allowed us the learn about pond habitats and the variety of living things that live in and around them.

When we arrived, we met Joanne who took us for a walk around the park and introduced us to some of the birds - ducks and cranes.

Then we went on a min-beast hunt. We used brushes to make sure we did not harm the creatures. They were collected and sorted depending on whether they had legs or not. Afterwards, they were all returned to their homes.

Look at the duck! It’s a Pom-Pom duck because it looks like it’s got a Pom-Pom on its head!

We learned about flamingos in advance of seeing them. A flamingo only lays one egg a year and they are pretty big! We held a swan’s foot and looked at how it is webbed which helps it swim faster.

We all loved the otters!

And the flamingos! Did you know they stand on one leg and continually swap which leg they are standing on so they don’t get two very cold feet?

Lunch time! We were all a bit wet and soggy after a downpour just before lunch!

We caught so much interesting pond life. We got to look at our catches carefully through a microscope.

It was all finished off with some fun in the park. What a wonderful day.
