Open source water-energy simulator operation IMPACTS TO the energy system

1. Introduction

This video aims to explain the impact that the water system has on the operation of the energy system.

An illustrative network consisting of 3 buses, 2 hydropower generators, 2 thermal generators and 2 energy demands has been used in this video. The energy system is linked to a water system that contains 2 reservoirs, 2 water supplies, 2 irrigation demands and 2 turbines that are connected to the hydropower generators in the energy system.

As indicated on the home page of the training you should have already created an account.

2. Intended learning outcomes

The video has the objective to answer three main questions:

  • Is the energy system affected by the water system?
  • Is the simulator capable of capturing the effect of the water system in the energy systems?
  • Could a simulation only considering the energy network lead to an inaccurate or optimistic generation dispatch?

The video also has an in-depth explanation of the water and energy systems, their inputs and their outputs.
