- Josef Mengele was born March 11th, 1911
- Raised in Gunzburg, Germany
- Became interested in Aryan supremacy while studying human genetics
- In 1939 he decided to enlist in the German army
- Began to think about how he could breed an Aryan race
- He became assigned to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp
- He decided which incoming inmates worked or were sent to die
- He was later named the chief medical officer there by Adolf Hitler
- He experimented on his patients in an attempt to breed the Aryan race
- He wanted to create an army of blond haired and blue eyed soldiers
- He performed these experiments without anesthesia
- He quickly became known as the "Angel of Death"
- He had a great interest in twins
- The people performed on consisted of Jews, Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, the mentally and physically disabled, and Mulatto children
- All people fitting this criteria were in concentration camps
Some of his many experiments included...
- Sewing children together to create siamese twins
- Injecting dye into children's eyes to change the color
- Freezing inmates to death
- Gender change operations
- Subjection to large amounts of radiation
- Tearing off the limbs of children
- Using electricity to test the endurance of pain
- Beating children with a hammer to make them go insane
- After the war ended, Josef Mengele assumed the identity of one of his allies who died
- He was being hunted to be put on trial for the crimes he had committed
- It is estimated around 400,000 people died in Auschwitz when Josef Mengele was there
- He died in hiding under another identity
- Died on February 7th, 1989
