Extra Curricular Activities
Mt. Vernon Middle School offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities for students to get involved in. When students are involved in opportunities they are interested in they are Engaged and Empowered to discover their strengths.
Cross Country
All Students
Coach: Mr. Roader and Mr. Freeman
Season: July - September
We practice Mon-Thurs after school each day until 5. We may practice some Fridays or a Saturday morning if necessary for a big meet. We run small meets and then several bigger invitations. After the season is over, we will continue to run twice a week from November - March to stay in shape for the upcoming track season.
Football
7th and 8th Grade Students

Season is from July through early October (but plenty of voluntary off-season practices too - almost year round)
Mt. Vernon Middle School offers tackle football at both the 7th and 8th grade levels. There are no tryouts, just the expectation you give your best and strive to get better everyday.

This is an after school group that focuses on and learns a variety of popular music styles. The Funk Band performs at all scheduled band concerts as well as 6 home basketball games.
Holiday Band

Sponsor: Mr. Day
This is an after school group that learns a variety of Holiday music during early winter. The Holiday Band performs at community holiday events.
IBA All-Region Honor Band
7th and 8th Grade Band Members.
Sponsor: Mr. Day
The Honor Band is made up of serious band members from the central-east Indiana region. The event takes place in November of each year.
InPact Band
7th-9th Grade Band Members
Sponsor: Mr. Day.
The InPact band is made up of 7th, 8th and 9th grade band students from all over the state. The band performs prior to the DCI state finals in August. Applications to participate in the InPact band are available in March.
Locked In Choir
7th and 8th Grade Students that can read music.
Sponsor: Mrs. Stewart
Locked In is an advanced vocal group that meets after school. Auditions will be in September with Biweekly after school rehearsals beginning in October. Locked In will finish it’s season at winter break.

Spell Bowl Club

On the Spell Bowl team, you will be studying over 1,700 words and then competing against other schools for individual and team awards. You do not have to spell the words out loud; it is all written!
Game Club

Sponsor: Ms. Shepherd
Game club is a place for all students to come and participate. Meetings are held after school twice a month during Quarters 2 and 3. Students are welcome to come to one or come to all. They will have the opportunity to learn new games and play familiar favorites.
Kitchen Table

Kitchen table is a place to come after school to learn study skills and receive peer tutoring. Meetings take place Thursdays until 4:30 during Quarters 2 and 3.
Marauder Movement

The Marauder Movement is a kindness and inclusion club. We strive to make everyone in our building feel loved and supported. This club works on Unified Champions events and supports the school's inclusive culture. Join us to be a part of the Movement! We meet every other week before school on Thursdays at 8am.
Newspaper Club

Newspaper Club is a place where students have the opportunity to work on their writing skills in a fun & creative way. Members will design the monthly newspaper, writing and reporting about school and local events, while adding some literary flair to the middle school. All members will collaborate to come up with innovative and exciting ideas, all while getting the monthly publication out on time!
Virtual Call-Out for Newspaper Club will happen in August. After candidates are chosen, Newspaper Club will be on for the rest of the school year, on a bi-weekly basis!
Push Up Club

Push Up club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays before lunch. Students have the opportunity to build their minds while building their muscles.
Talent Show

Performance: March
The talent show has been very popular event at MVMS every since 1976. Contestants compete for category trophies. There is also a grand champion. Past contestants included dancers, singers, piano players, guitar players, other musicians, bands, Taekwondo artists, comedians, and more.
Yearbook Club

Applications: September
Meetings: Twice a month September-March
Students will meet twice a month September - March after school to design the school yearbook. Each student will take part in photographing school events such as sporting events. Students will also decide on a yearbook theme and work together to design all of the pages.
