How do flowers survive? Flower parts and their functions

Flower's need many things to survive including water, sunlight, and oxygen. Above all of these things plants must have the ability to absorb and utilize these different resources. We are going to look at the different parts of plants and the role they play in helping plants to survive.

First we are going to look at the petals of the plant! The petals main job is to support and protect the reproductive parts of the plant! The purple petals protect the middle of the plant that has the pollen (the yellow dust) along with protecting the pollen, the petals also contain some form of nectar or a sweet smelling perfume to help attract pollinators!

This is one of many insects that play a role in the pollinating flowers! The bumblebee was drawn in by the sweet smell of the flower, landed to feed, and began collecting pollen on the fuzzy parts of its body! The bee then goes on to feed on other flowers transferring pollen to the other plant and causing reproduction!

Leaves grow out of the stem and their main job is to absorb sunlight and carbon dioxide then transform these things into food for the plant!

Plants will actually lean towards their light source so that they can absorb more sunlight!

The plants stem helps transport water, minerals, and sugars to other parts of the plant!
The roots of the plant are used to absorb water, minerals, and sugar to help feed the plant! The roots also help keep the plant grounded!
