Dear University community,
The long-awaited return and performance of the legendary Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán at TAMIU is this Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the TAMIU Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.
- The performance, dubbed “México Creo en Ti,” is the capstone event of the two-day 6th International Mariachi Festival at TAMIU, which also attracts over 450 high school mariachi groups from across Texas for learning workshops with the members of Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán.
- Ticket information is online at go.tamiu.edu/mariachitickets, or by phone by calling 956.326.2273. They can also be purchased at TAMIU’s Bursar’s Office, located in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center, or at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
- Congratulations to Dr. Adam Kozaczka, assistant professor of English, who was named one of 12 distinguished A&M System faculty and professionals to be awarded the 2022 Chancellor’s Medallion for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We are tremendously proud of Dr. Kozaczka.
- We also extend congratulations to Dr. Lola Norris, associate professor of Spanish and Translation, who has been presented with one of three Chancellor’s Academy of Teacher Educators (CATE) Awards by Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp. She is model faculty member and recognized by her peers who elected her president of the Faculty Senate for two consecutive years.

- This summer, local rising high school juniors or seniors can “D.I.A.L.L.” (Development of Informatics Accelerated Learning in Laredo) up a STEM immersion experience during a week-long opportunity hosted by TAMIU and the University of Texas Health Science Center of Houston School of Biomedical Informatics. The program is limited to 20 students and free of charge to selected students. The deadline to apply for admission is Friday, May 20, 2022. Apply at go.tamiu.edu/diall.
- Aspiring educators are invited to attend the upcoming School Districts Fair on Wednesday, April 27 from 1 – 4 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. The event is open to students, alumni and the general public. Individuals are encouraged to register for the event at https://tamiu.joinhandshake.com/edu/career_fairs/31794.

TAMIU'S Dr. Adam Kozaczka Honored at A&M System Chancellor's Summit on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Texas A&M University System has named TAMIU assistant professor of English Dr. Adam Kozaczka as one of 12 distinguished A&M System faculty and professionals awarded the 2022 Chancellor's Medallion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The virtual event convened over 1,030 participants from across the A&M System. Participants discussed diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives taking place at all System campuses.
"Dr. Kozaczka has assisted in writing content for TIDE's website and has contributed his views on DEI through published and posted interviews. Perhaps one of his most significant contributions to date in the area of DEI at TAMIU has been the procurement of the Humanities Texas grant in the delivery of the 'Diverse Cultures, Diverse Humanities' Lecture Series."

TAMIU, Expanding Frontiers Enter New MOA Eyeing Commercial Space Exploration
A new agreement between TAMIU and Expanding Frontiers, a Texas non-profit focused on the growth of a state and national ecosystem for commercial space exploration, will help outline a program for collaborative research and educational programs, data sharing, and data analysis.
