Diego Salazar, known artistically as Rombo, is disrupting the conventions of art and architecture with his surreal approach to drawing. Born in Mexico City in 1993 and currently based in Brooklyn, Rombo leads a platform for representing and co-creating with underrepresented artists from around the world. Rombo’s company, Studio Rombo, seeks to introduce artists to the greater global market, while challenging them with his own ideas and understanding of their art.

Featuring Guest Artist:

Erika Harrsch

Harrsch is a New York–based multidisciplinary artist; she was born and raised in Mexico City, and has lived in Italy, Germany, and Brazil. Her pieces are infused with multilayered references and narratives concerned with individual and cultural preoccupations, as well as critical political and environmental issues. She has been defined as a multidisciplinary artist, employing traditional mediums along with new media and technologies to articulate her concepts and interests.

The formal aspects of her oeuvre and languages investigate diverse fields to achieve visual, multisensory, and interactive experiences: a comprehensive reflection about the body and identity, sexuality, desire, the space that defines us and the one we wish for, the limits and vertiginous freedom that lead to a continuous corporeal and ideological migration. For over six years, Harrsch has included entomology research as part of her work, using butterflies as a metaphor for themes such as gender, identity, migration, nationality, and the relationship human beings have with their own nature and fragility.

Mark Strauss Gallery Installation, 2017

Her work has been shown in galleries, festivals, and international artistic residencies, as well as the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York City), Museo del Barrio (New York City), Nevada Museum of Art (Reno, Nevada), Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (Ridgefield, Connecticut), amongst many others. Her work is included in numerous international public and private collections, including the Musée de la Photographie in Belgium, and the Eaton Corporation and the Fidelity Corporation in the United States.

PROYECTO MARIPOSA NY

Proyecto Mariposa strives to uplift the immigrant community of New York through educational program development, and fundraising events providing aide and lasting human connections.

Founded by three Mexican women living in New York. Our purpose is to alleviate the weight of integrating into a new culture. From fundraising to volunteering or partnering with other charity associations, it is our hope to facilitate different ways in which one can provide aid, support, and get involved. We build ties between other associations and the newcomers* themselves. Like the butterfly in our logo, immigrants are forced to abandon their homes due to corruption, violence and poverty. Then, embark on a grueling journey in search of a better life and starting that new life, especially in a foreign land, is just as hard as the expedition itself.

Love begets love. When we uplift another, we create a butterfly effect of change, resulting in limitless possibilities over time.
