First Friday Art Walk
Gallery 770
Randy Wayne Hare and Straight Line Art exhibit
August 4th - August 26th
You have heard people dismiss their artistic abilities by saying, “I can’t draw a straight line.” Well, if you give them rulers they might be able to go in all kinds of directions. This is the path to picture making that our August gallery artist Randy Hare has followed. His exhibition, entitled “Straight Line Art” opens in Gallery 770 on August 4th, with a reception from 5-8PM
Randy Hare is a Florida native who began making art later in life. Now in his 60s he finds that the process excites him as do the endless possibilities he sees. He started making his "straight line art" pieces less than two years ago and was encouraged to show them at a local craft fair and people seemed to like them. We have selected a representative group of works to give viewers a taste of the ways creative minds can go by drawing straight lines.
The works he produces are geometric and mathematical, but wonderfully immersive and interesting. They excite the eye by their suggestion of space and perspective. They also abound in elegant curves created by the intersection of lines at different angles and the choices of color make them very decorative objects as well. Come meet Randy and learn about his journey to being a Straight Line Artist.

OUR SUMMER PROJECTS
Community Art Exhibit
Stop by the Lebanon Community Library to see the Lucy Clerk Painting my Travels Exhibit. This community art space has been provided by the Mount Gretna United Methodist Church Drendall Endowment, Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts, and the Lebanon Community Library.
Mosaic Mural
Our 2023 Mosaic Mural, Good Morning, is located along the main pathway at South Hills Park, 1100 S. Lincoln Avenue. Lead artist Autumn Krouse led young people, community members, LVCA board members, and family groups in designing and installing this years mosaic mural. The theme of celebrating nature and welcoming the day was developed with park staff members and visitors. For over 20 years, South Hills Park flourished under the leadership of Mike Kipp, who envisioned art in this local park. After he passed away, his successors wanted to make his vision a reality and worked with LVCA to bring this unique public art to South Hills Park.
This project was supported by Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts, Kiwanis of Lebanon, PA Council on the Arts, Thrivent Financial and The Benjamin Franklin Trust Fund of the Greater Harrisburg Foundation, a regional foundation of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities.
Art Club
Our third year of Art Club for young people was a great success! Local artist and art instructor, Laura Mechling, led the group in creating block prints and a watercolor project. Thank you to Rachel Strauser and Courtney Reimann for assisting with the art club sessions. The students chose a project to be displayed at the community exhibit space at the Lebanon Community Library. Look for the Back to School exhibit in Fall 2023.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
LVCA is looking for volunteers and people interested in joining the board. Volunteers could help out by being available at events, opening the gallery on Saturday mornings, teaching a class, hosting on First Friday's, or organizing the office space. Serving on LVCA's board is a unique opportunity to get involved with a dynamic and very hands-on community organization. The board members work together to oversee the daily business operations, develop and support new events and programs, and are available for First Friday events and gallery open hours. If you're interested or have questions, please send an email to lebanonartscouncil@gmail.com
Collage Lounge
3rd Friday of the Month
Collage is a technique of art creation, primarily used in the visual arts, but in music too, by which art results from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. (wikipedia)
LVCA will provide all the supplies, but feel free to bring your own magazines, scissors, glue, markers, and images. BYOB
The session is $12 for non-members and $6 for members. Payment accepted at event. Or go to our square site to pay online.

Lebanon Camera Club September Meeting, 9/5 at 6:30 pm
Mini-Program: "Taking Control of Your Digital Camera: Metering" by Keith Kotay Many beginner photographers use their cameras in automatic mode, in which the camera controls most, if not all, of the settings. This is a quick way to get started with a new camera, but has its creative limitations. Even photographers with lots of experience using film cameras can be intimidated by the numerous menus and settings that exist in modern digital cameras, and they may revert to using their new digital camera in automatic mode. While it is sometimes beneficial to operate some camera subsystems in automatic mode, it is important to understand how to operate your camera manually to improve your photography and achieve your photographic vision.
This is the first in a series of presentations which describe how to move away from automatic camera operation. We will look at different camera subsystems, and learn how to control them manually. The first talk will be on metering, which is the process of measuring the amount of light in order to determine proper exposure. Metering was the first automatic subsystem incorporated into fully manual cameras, although initially it simply replaced using an external light meter and did not control the exposure directly. Later, metering was used to control exposure in automatic and semi-automatic exposure modes (exposure modes will be the topic of the next presentation). Also, various metering modes were developed to evaluate the amount of light, such as matrix, center weighted, and spot--these metering modes will be described in this talk.
Mini-Program: Lebanon Area Fair Meet-up Image Review We will do a slideshow of images taken at our meet-up at the Lebanon Area Fair in July. Images will not be judged, but photographers may ask for image critique. Also, images taken by our members that achieved 1st through 5th places in the LAF photo competition will be shown.
Competition: June competition results review & critique; September digital competition image preview, Assigned Subject is "Wild Animals"
