Seminole State claims third consecutive national title
Sanford, FL - In the inaugural Division I NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, the Seminole State College of Florida women's golf team maintained dominance throughout the entire tournament, claiming the third straight national championship and fourth women's golf national championship in program history.
The Raiders led for the entire tournament and posted a sub-300 in two of four rounds of the tournament, which were the only sub-300 team scores of any school.
Another women's golf program with a rich championship history, Daytona State finished in second place. The Falcons have finished in one of the top two spots for nine straight championship tournaments. Iowa Western finished in third place golfing for a total of 1276.
Team Standings
Seminole State finished with a score of 1198, for the second year in a row. The Raiders claimed the lead by 45 strokes ahead of second place, Daytona State.
Individual Standings
Minori Nagano, Seminole State-FL, claimed her second consecutive individual title at the NJCAA Women's Golf Championship with a total score of 288 over four rounds.
Nagano shot a tournament low, 71, in the opening and closing rounds of the tournament. Mesa's Alyzzah Vakasioula tied the tournament low of 71 in the third round.
Vakasioula claimed second place individually and helped lead the Thunderbirds to its best team finish since 2015. Vakasioula improved on her fifth place finish a year ago, finishing four shots behind Nagano and nine shots clear of third place.
Seminole State Three-Peat
The Raiders have become a staple at the National tournament. They have finished in the top-2 in each of the last seven championships while winning four titles since 2015. The team score of 1,198 ties the lowest in team history set during last year's championship tournament.
All four of the Raider Women’s Golf championships have been won under Head Coach Christa Teno.
Sophomore Minori Nagano led Seminole State to another championship title, finishing with a total score of 288.
The Raiders had four golfers earn first team All-America honors and All-Tournament recognition: Minori, Ayami Takahashi, Grace Aromando, and Minami Kudo.
Hole in One!
For the second straight year, a Dodge City golfer recorded a hole-in-one. Sophomore Tanika Yadilokwong walked up to the third hole (par 4) in the second round and achieved a goal every golfer wishes for, to get a hole in 1! Yadilokwong tied for 18th place, earning an NJCAA All-America honorable mention. Dodge City finished eighth in the team leaderboard with sophomore Thitapha Iamtragul placing fourth overall. Iamtragul earned a first-team All-American honor and All-Tournament Team recognition.
