Cedar Portal

Personal Statement
- Inspiration, then dividing the image into reality - takes steps and stages in order to reach a sculptural conclusion. This takes persistence and congruence while accepting and adapting to slight changes that happen throughout it's development. Sometimes the outcome is not the same as the intended conception - but, that can be a good thing too.
Sculpture Statement
- The "cedar portal" came about from a series of portals that are large enough to walk through. I like the idea of a gateway to mark one area (or atmosphere), to another place. In the previous post and lintel gates, I made a three point connection between the post and the lintel point of contact (or support). The Japanese Shinto torii gates have flat (horizontal) 2 point support systems. On this portal, the contact points are pinned from the top - and just lean or rest (at an angle) against the posts.
