The Renegade, Non-Affiliated, Unapproved website for the Mt. Hood Community College Computer Game Development program.
Mt. Hood Community College's Computer Game development program is a 2 year Associate of Applied Science degree program that introduces students to a wide variety of skills, preparing them for entry level positions in the entertainment industry, or training them to go their own, indie route.
We also NOW offer a 1 year certificate for Computer Game and Mobile Application Programmer. For those looking for a shorter, more programming intensive solution, students can take all classes for the certificate in 1 school year. Students taking the full degree AAS program can trade their art electives out for Swyft mobile Application programming (ISTM235MA & ISTM235MB) and JavaScript (CIS197CSP) and get the Certificate at the same time.
Our goal is to introduce students to a variety of Game related skills, allowing them to select their path (big box, indie, or related field) through portfolio-focused and project oriented study.
Skills introduced within our program include: Programming, 3D Asset Modeling, 2D skills such as texturing, pixel and concept art, rigging, animation and working with game engines. Our TXP class offers rotating and relevant industry topics, based on what's hot for the year, such as VR/AR and 3D printing. We follow this with complementary skills such as Small business entrepreneurship or project management, branding, Level and General Game Design theory, UI and UX design, Web site creation, and touch on the legal, moral and social aspects of the game industry.
Starting this year, we offer a larger selection of ELECTIVE CLASSES for the degree program. Students can now pick 3 classes from traditional art, application programming, creative writing or digital music.
