"The return to nationals with equal representation from both our women's and men's team was the perfect culmination to their great seasons! Men's Lacrosse Takes Down #9 Wesleyan

Taking on 9th-ranked Wesleyan University Saturday, Colby looked to end a 10-year winless streak against the Cardinals. Wesleyan had started the year not only undefeated (4-0), but also racking up an astounding 16 goal margin of victory on average. On Seaverns Field, the Mules looked to slow down the Cardinal attack.

Trailing by one goal at the half, Colby's defense dug in even more for the final 30 minutes, allowing only three second-half goals to the visitors. The Mules picked away, making the most of their scoring opportunities, and with nine minutes to play Jack Rickards tallied the equalizing score, knotting the game at nine goals apiece. With less than one minute remaining, Nick Hassan scored his second goal of the year, putting the Mules on top 10-9.

With the clock ticking away, Wesleyan regained possession with only seconds remaining, and a last-second heave was picked out of the air by goaltender Matt Suffredini, securing the Colby victory. Jack Goller and Ryan Darby led the Mules with two goals apiece. First-year Matt Stein tallied four points, with one goal and three assists.

Matt Suffredini tallied a career-high 16 saves in the win over #9 Wesleyan.

Colby is now 2-1 overall, and 1-1 in NESCAC play.

Women's Lacrosse Upends #11 Wesleyan, Runs Record to 4-1

After an early week 18-3 win over the University of New England, the 12th-ranked Women's Lacrosse team headed south to Middletown, Conn. to face #11 Wesleyan University. The Mules entered the NESCAC matchup with a 1-0 conference record after opening the season with a 9-4 upset over then-#2 Tufts University.

There was no doubt about this one from the start, as Colby jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. Grace Toner tallied twice, and the Mules controlled possession, holding the Cardinals to only two shots on goal in the first 15 minutes. Wesleyan fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Mules 4-3 in the period, and narrowing Colby's lead to 8-5 at the half.

The Mules came out of the break on a tear, scoring five goals on eight shots in the frame. Colby forced six Wesleyan turnovers, and converting on all of their clears, opening up a 13-5 lead heading into the final quarter. In the fourth, the two teams traded goals with two apiece, and Colby closed it out for a 15-7 victory.

Grace Toner tallied three goals and fours assists, good for seven points against Wesleyan.

Baseball Starts Season 5-0

Before heading south to Florida for spring break, Colby welcomed one more Maine team to Jack Coombs Field. The Husson Eagles came to town Wednesday, and after each team scored two runs in the opening frame, Colby broke it open in the fourth inning with four runs, followed by another in the fifth and yet another in the sixth, cruising to an 8-3 victory.

Nick Thompson toed the mound for the first three innings against Husson, striking out four.

Playing games as soon as the Mules stepped off the plane, Colby faced Endicott College on Saturday and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Sunday.

Colby built an early lead against the Gulls (5-0 after the third inning), but Endicott came storming back to tie the game in the top of the 9th inning. With the Mules applying pressure on the base paths (four stolen bases), Colby forced Endicott into a balk with a runner on 3rd in the bottom of the frame, resulting in the walk-off win.

On Sunday against Wisc-Eau Claire, the Mules built leads of 4-1 and 7-4 en route to a 9-5 victory. Marcus Forrester went 4-6 at the plate with a double and three runs scored.

Colby starts the 2022 season 5-0 for the first time since the NESCAC created a conference championship in 2001.

Before heading south to Clermont, Fla. for spring break, the Mules opened their season at home with a double-header against Thomas. In game 1, Colby jumped in front with a run in the first, but the Terriers tied the game in the top of the 6th inning. With a scoreless 7th inning, the cross-town rivals headed to extra frames. The Mules escaped the top of the 8th unscathed, and with a runner on second, Chloe Wilcox sent a double to right-center to plate the winning run, walk-off.
