A Note from Carleton Men's Tennis Head Coach, Stephan Zweifel
Dear Leo,
Congratulations on being selected as the ITA Senior Player of the Year for DIII Men’s tennis. This is a tremendous honor that reflects not only the phenomenal season you recently completed, but also your long-term dedication and tireless commitment to being the best tennis player possible. Winning the national championship in both singles and doubles a few weeks ago in Chattanooga was truly an historic accomplishment! As everybody can appreciate, this was a challenging season for all sports programs across the nation, and we all had doubts as to whether we would be able to compete. But your work ethic and leadership were instrumental in maintaining the positive energy on our team, and making this season a success for Carleton Tennis.
You are the consummate professional, and your dedication to improving your tennis skills has set the standard for the rest of the team. It has been a tremendous pleasure to work with a student athlete of your talents and impeccable character. As I wrote to the committee for your award nomination: “To watch Leo play tennis is to watch someone do the thing they truly love. It is also the stage where you will see Leo’s character on full display –thoughtful, patient, and gracious. He is fiercely competitive, yet at the same time is one of the most kind and honest individuals I have met in the sport. One can readily see the respect Leo has for the game and his opponents. Even with all the pressure that comes with his success, there is not one ounce of arrogance in this remarkable young man.”
You will be missed by many, and I wish you all the best in your future adventures.
