One of the projects we had originally planned for September 2020 was the launch of our new online platform for parents.
Uno de los proyectos que teníamos preparados para el comienzo del curso 2020/21, en Septiembre, era la creación de un portal para las familias del colegio.
However, in light of the current situation, we decided to bring its launch forward. We feel that it is important to have such a platform because now, more than ever, we need to be informed, connected and in the most simple and accessible way possible.
Sin embargo, el cierre físico del colegio ha precipitado nuestra decisión de poner en marcha el portal. Ahora más que nunca se nos hace imprescindible una herramienta como ésta, porque ahora más que nunca queremos estar juntos, conectados y de la forma más accesible y sencilla posible.

Y es por ello que esta semana hemos compartido el enlace para que puedan acceder a este sitio, el Portal para familias BSM.
What is the BSM PORTAL? · ¿Qué es BSM PORTAL?
This portal is basically a central place where you will be able to find all school information, links and resources. At the moment, you can find all the relevant information about our Home Learning Programme. However, on a permanent basis, you will be able to access all the key information for each year group, staff contacts, menus, after school activities (including the link for enrolments and withdrawals), uniform shop and bus routes. In essence, this will house all the information you will need regarding the school.
Este portal es básicamente un sitio centralizado en el que encontrarán toda la información, enlaces y recursos del colegio. En estos momentos tienen acceso a la información más relevante sobre Home Learning. Pero de forma permanente tendrán acceso a toda la información clave de los cursos, personas de contacto en el colegio, menús del comedor, actividades extraescolares (con el enlace para cursar altas/bajas), tienda de uniformes, rutas de autobús, etc. En definitiva, es el lugar donde encontrarán todo lo que necesitan para su relación con el colegio.
Please bear in mind that the site is still under construction and we will continue to work on the portal which will grow and adapt to our community's needs. For now, we will be leaving the portal open so that anyone with the link can access the information, however, we will assess this in the coming months to see whether or not we should restrict access to parents only.
Tengan en cuenta que estamos en construcción y que seguimos trabajando en este portal, que irá creciendo y adaptándose a las necesidades que tenga nuestra comunidad. Por el momento hemos preferido dejarlo completamente abierto, pero evaluaremos su funcionamiento en los próximos meses para saber si es mejor el acceso restringido a las familias.

How have we created the portal? · ¿Cómo se ha creado el portal?
As you are aware, our school extensively uses Google because of the flexibility and potential that it allows and Google Sites shapes the way we communicate, substituting paper and files.
Como saben, nuestro colegio usa extensivamente la tecnología Google, por la flexibilidad y la potencialidad que nos permite. Y Google Sites da forma a la comunicación que mantenemos, sustituyendo al papel y las carpetas.
Why have we created this portal? · ¿Por qué se ha creado este portal?
This year, we have already tried to send all official communication on one day, Monday, and store it in one place: The Monday Communications Letter. Here, you can find at any time and in date order, all the letters that we have sent to parents each Monday unless we have to contact you urgently which unfortunately, has happened quite frequently this year. We have also created a central place where you can find the Course Guides for each year group. Internally, we have also started creating a central site for staff information. This has received a lot of positive feedback which is why we decided to launch a similar portal for families.
Este curso ya habíamos probado la experiencia de concentrar todas las comunicaciones oficiales un solo día, los lunes, y de dejarlas depositadas en un solo sitio: el Monday Communications. Aquí pueden encontrar en todo momento, y por fecha, todas las cartas de interés para las familias emitidas semanalmente los lunes. Lógicamente, salvo casos de urgencia, como nos ha ocurrido más de lo habríamos querido este año. También habíamos creado un sitio para recopilar todas las programaciones de curso: Course Guides. De forma interna, hemos empezado a trabajar con un sitio único para el personal. Nos han parecido experiencias positivas y es por ello que hemos decidido dar el salto a un portal para familias.

Bisturí Solidario
We have received a video from the Fundación Bisturí Solidario, the project of César Ramírez, parent and Core Value Champion for "collaboration", one of our school values. Through the "Objetivo Málaga" programme, Doctors Ramirez and Trujillo want to help protect our health workers and general society in the fight against Covid-19 and therefore we would ask for your support to spread this message as much as possible.
Nos llega este vídeo de Fundación Bisturí Solidario, proyecto de César Ramírez, miembro de nuestra comunidad escolar y uno de los Patrones de los Valores del colegio, la colaboración. Nos gustaría difundir y que difundáis lo máximo posible el mensaje. Mediante el programa "Objetivo Málaga" los doctores Ramírez y Trujillo quieren ayudar a proteger a nuestros sanitarios y la sociedad en general en la lucha contra el Covid-19, para lo que solicitan nuestra aportación.
BSM Challenge
We will soon be starting the Easter holidays and we would like to propose a challenge to occupy some of your free time during the next few days. It is completely optional but it would be wonderful if you could participate in the initiative that other schools have started. We would like you to either write a letter or postcard to cheer up patients who are in hospital. Many of the people currently admitted are alone and would love to receive some kind words or pictures which can be in English or Spanish. If you would like to participate, please send a photograph or a scanned copy of your letter to marketing@britishschoolmalaga.com. Enjoy your well-deserved holiday!
Nos marchamos todos de vacaciones de Semana Santa y nos gustaría proponeros un reto para realizar durante los días libres. Es completamente voluntario y opcional, pero nos haría mucha ilusión que participéis. Queremos unirnos a la iniciativa de otros colegios y enviar cartas o postales de ánimo a los pacientes que están en los hospitales. Pueden ser en inglés o en español, con técnica libre. Year 1
Year 1 are taking part in a Zoo Project this week as part of their home learning, drawing together their learning in Writing, Science, Art, Geography and ICT. Through this daily Zoo Project diary, they are consolidating their knowledge about animal groups and habitats, developing new ICT learning by accessing a variety of available zoo websites with web cams, and practicing their Art and Writing skills. We have been impressed by their efforts so far!
Los alumnos de Year 1 están participando en un proyecto de zoo esta semana, es parte de su aprendizaje desde casa. Han dibujado y han puesto en práctica lo que saben hacer en Escritura, Ciencias, Arte, Geografía e Informática. A través de este Proyecto Diario del Zoo, están consolidando sus conocimientos sobre los grupos de animales y sus hábitats, desarrollando nuevas habilidades tecnológicas al acceder a las webs de distintos zoos que tienen cámaras en directo y también han podido practicar su talento en Arte y Escritura. ¡Estamos impresionados con sus esfuerzos!

Our Year 3 students have made some fantastic parachutes this week to practice the science of air resistance. And all from home..!

If the Year 1 students are learning about animals, our Year 6 students have made a video to teach us about all the fauna on the planet. This week, Amelia and Ethan would like to share their documentaries with you. Future David Attenborough's in the making!

EAL (English as Additional Language)

Learning a second language should be fun. One of our favourite ways to learn new vocabulary is to focus on a new Fairy Tale every week. Last week the Primary EAL children watched the story of Rapunzel. We each got a chance to read the story to one another. Finally each of the children retold the story to their friends and family in their own words, one even managed to write three whole pages. I can't believe some of these children only started the school one month ago, they just keep getting better and better! I couldn't be more proud of them!
Aprender un nuevo idioma debería ser divertido. Una de nuestras actividades favoritas para aprender vocabulario es centrarnos en un cuento cada semana. La semana pasada los niños de EAL vieron la historia de Rapunzel. Luego pudieron leerse la historia los unos a los otros. Por último, contaron el cuento a sus amigos y familia, con sus propias palabras. Uno de ellos incluso lo puso por escrito en tres páginas completas. ¡No puedo creer que algunos de estos niños empezaran en el colegio hace tan sólo un mes! Y han mejorado más y más desde entonces. ¡No puedo estar más orgullosa de ellos!

Year 10 GCSE
The last three weeks has certainly shown that our students are developing some great technological skills. Pablo A.R. (Year 10) who is studying GCSE PE has produced this video as part of his coursework. Congratulations!

Science
In Science, our Year 7 students could have prepared the usual PowerPoint presentations to explain what they have learnt about achievements in space. Instead, they have gone to a lot of effort to create some very inspiring videos.
Los alumnos de Year 7, en Ciencias, se han esforzado mucho por evitar las típicas presentaciones en PowerPoint a la hora de explicar lo que saben sobre los logros espaciales. A cambio, se han esmerado en crear unos vídeos muy inspiradores.
Online Stars of the Week
Students have been working online for three weeks now and those in Secondary have shown amazing levels of Resilience to overcome technical issues and learn new skills; Independence working online on Google Apps and personal projects; Creativity in some of the amazing videos and artwork we have seen. They have been learning to Communicate and Collaborate in new ways. They have taken the Lead when they have shown their classmates new skills via Google Meet videoconference. They have Reflected on their mistakes when things went wrong and Aspired to get better and better. They have all learned new skills and we are very proud of them. In order to recognise students who have gone above and beyond, their teachers have nominated their Online Stars of the Week:

We have great pleasure in confirming that the chosen name for the BSM chick is Cleo(patra). Cleo won with 42.1% of the votes. There was a tie for 2nd place with the names Chicken Licken and Chiko. We want to wish Cleo a long and happy life!
