As with most cities, Ottawa lights up around Christmas in public areas as well as many private homes.
Each year there is a "Sound and Light" production with digital images being projected onto the Parliament buildings.
(The construction cranes in the background are being used during a 10 year renovation to the the "Centre Block" on Parliament Hill)
The 2021-22 production was not up to the standard of the 2016-17 show.
Throughout the central downtown area there were well lit trees, decorations and buildings.
In the suburbs, the competition between homeowners can get carried away, although some manage to keep it simple.
I doubt if there was much space left for another decoration. The homeowner was asking for donations to the local children's hospital.
Each year Upper Canada Village, a living museum (in the summer) of life in the 1860's, decorates its buildings for "Alight at Night".
One of Santa's helpers is there some nights to greet the children. Because of Covid restrictions, he was restricted to being inside a building with a large window looking out on children visiting. While there was an opening in the door where he could talk to the children directly, he also had an audio system which allowed him to talk to kids outside.
