The meaning of Incarnation

• 2 Latin words - In Flesh
• In - same as in
• Carnis - flesh
• John 1:14 - …and the word became flesh (incarnated) and dwelt among us….

Why was Jesus incarnated

• God is a Spirit (John 4:24) - He cannot be seen or touched with the natural senses - John 3:3, 5-6; A Spirit is like the wind - John 3:8
• In order for the plan of salvation to be fulfilled on earth, it was necessary for God to reveal Himself in the form of man, live and die like man (a sinner’s death) - Romans 8:1-4
• The immortal and invisible God was incarcerated
• The part of God incarnated was the Word.
• John 3:16 - The Word, also the Son of God had to be offered as our substitute to pay the penalty for our sins so that believers will not perish but have an everlasting life.
• Hebrews 4:14-16 And by sharing our experiences in natural realm, He can make sure we have abundant grace to be transformed like Him, while interceding on our behalf

What does this mean for us? Or What would have been if there was no Incarnation of Jesus?

• Without the incarnation we wouldn’t have a clear knowledge of God
• His Glory would remain hidden - His love, mercy, grace, compassion, sacrifice, forgiveness, passion, kindness, patience, goodness
• The version of God known to us would have been the wrathful, judgement, vengeful, destructive, angry God of ancient stories
• There won’t be a New Covenant for all mankind, neither would anyone meet the Old Testament standards in order to be saved
• The last Bible chapter would have been Malachi 4
• There will be no Holy Spirit to guide us in understanding God’s truth, and therefore we will not be receiving more revelation from Him
• There will be no Christians, no institutions of high moral standards, no fellowships; only a chosen group will be God’s people (Israel)
• There will no blessed hope, and our eternal life with Him will not be guaranteed - John 14:2-3
