Dear University community,

Welcome to Spring Semester 2022. I hope everyone had a chance to reflect throughout yesterday’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and consider the selfless sacrifices and strides made by civil right leaders and activists towards the attainment of fairness and equality.

  • As you are aware, in light of the continued ramifications of the COVID-19 Pandemic, face-to-face (F2F ) classes, which were scheduled to start today, have been delayed in response to the local surge of the Omicron variant. While online classes start today, F2F classes are planned to begin Monday, Jan. 24.
  • Late registration will be extended through Friday, Jan. 28. The new payment deadline to avoid late fees is now Friday, Jan. 21. Late start courses (Flex Term Two) previously scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 7 will now begin Wednesday, Feb. 9.   • Students, applications are now being accepted for TAMIU CARES/ARP. Over $7.5 million in student assistance for eligible students is available this semester. Learn more here.
  • An exciting opportunity now awaits prospective students with the TAMIU Automatic Freshman Scholarship Program. First-time freshmen admitted to TAMIU by Feb. 1, 2022, can now access an expanded world of Automatic Freshman Scholarship Program opportunities. Check for more information below.
  • TAMIU Books IncludED will continue this semester, providing required course materials FREE OF CHARGE. Last semester, 8,457 students participated, saving over $3.7 million. Get the details.
  • We are offering on-campus testing and vaccination as part of our ongoing commitment to the health and safety of the TAMIU community. All updated hours are here. For information about our ongoing response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, please continue to visit our dedicated COVID-19 Response Center.
  • Finally, as we always do, we encourage all members of our University community to continue testing and use recommended face coverings/masks, in addition to practicing distancing and rigorous hand-washing. The best defense continues to be vaccination and boosters, both of which are offered on campus every Wednesday in the Student Center Rotunda. If you have any COVID symptoms, please stay home and get tested.

TAMIU Delays F2F Start of the Spring Semester

Last week, TAMIU announced that the planned Tuesday, January 18 start date for Spring Semester 2022 face-to-face courses was postponed to Monday, Jan. 24.

“In light of the continued ramifications of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the Omicron Variant surge in the Laredo community, we will delay the start of the Spring Semester face to face (F2F) classes until Monday, Jan. 24. Online classes will begin delivery as scheduled Tuesday, Jan. 18. All University offices and services will remain open and available as they have been since Jan. 4."

Spring 2022 payment deadline extended through Friday, Jan 21.

Late Registration continues through Friday, Jan. 28.

TAMIU Automatic Freshman Scholarship Program Expands Student Opportunities

First-time freshmen admitted to TAMIU by February 1, 2022 can now access an expanded world of Automatic Freshman Scholarship Program opportunities. Students meeting criteria can receive four-year automatic scholarships ranging from $16,000 to $32,000.

REGISTRATION FOR THE SPRING 2022 SEMESTER CONTINUES

Undergraduates may register for up to 18 hours for the Spring semester. Graduate students can register for up to 12 hours in the Spring semester.

TAMIU ATHLETICS UPDATE

TAMIU is a member of the Lone Star Conference and competes in 11 sports: volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's golf.
