Hospitalman Apprentice Carley (1969) - to- Professor Carley (2016)
A Short Bio: Professor Jerry Carley is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, but spent his first eighteen years of life as an Air Force dependent, traveling around the globe. He often says that he feels most at home when he is on any US Air Force SAC or TAC Base, and says he is reassured by the sounds of a B-52 testing engines over on the flight line. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February, 1969. After basic training in San Diego, California he attended Hospital Corps School, followed by Field Medical Technician School, followed by Operating Room Technician School. A few years later he was chosen to attend the nursing education program of his choice, and received a BA in Sociology and a BSN from the University of Wyoming. In subsequent years, he earned a Master of Arts (MA) in Business Management and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). His duty stations included Naval Hospital, Camp Pendleton, California (3 separate tours); Naval Hospital, San Diego, California; Naval Hospital, Guam Mariana Islands (two tours); Naval Hospital, Corpus Christi, Texas; Naval Hospital, Whidbey Island, Washington; and finally Naval Hospital, Millington, Tennessee. After a 23 year career in the Navy, he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Then he 'got a job' and worked for several years as a Public Health Nurse in Wyoming and the North Slope of Alaska. He has taught in nursing programs for the University of Wyoming, Del Mar College, Blinn College, Texas A&M University, Chamberlain College of Nursing, South University, the University of Phoenix, the University of Southern Nevada, and Roseman University of Health Sciences.
