Academy Museum Regeneration Summit
As a photographer, I had the opportunity to attend the Regeneration Summit: A Celebration of Black Cinema at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in February. The three-day festival coincided with Black History Month and was designed to honor the Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898-1971 exhibition.
The event featured interactive pop-up activations, live entertainment, workshops, film screenings, and talks that engaged people of all ages. Attendees were able to explore and celebrate the rich history of Black cinema through immersive experiences that highlighted Black participation in American cinema throughout the years.
The Regeneration Summit also brought together notable figures in the industry and individuals dedicated to preserving the history of Black cinema, such as Julie Dash, Carla Hayden (Librarian of Congress), Janaya Future Khan, Shola Lynch, Justice Maya Singleton, and others.
About the Project
As one of the CEO student photographers selected to partner with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and Las Fotos Project, I was tasked with interpreting the theme of "Becoming" through my photography. I was given three weeks to conceptualize and create my photographic work for submission to NHM's internal review team. The goal was to create artwork to adorn the construction fencing of the new NHM Commons and celebrate the diversity of Los Angeles.
I explored the theme creatively and expressed through photography what "becoming" meant to me as an Angeleno living in a culturally rich and vibrant city. It was an exciting opportunity to be a part of the Museum's renewed commitment to being a museum of, for, and with Los Angeles, actively welcoming and celebrating community collaboration.

I'm scared to make mistakes, so I do nothing...
Every morning before school starts, My mother combs and braids my hair with her art. It's our special time, just her and me, Creating something beautiful for all to see.
With every stroke and every twist, I feel my mother's love in every wisp. As she tucks my hair behind my ear, I feel her warmth and know that she's near.
Who are you?
My name is...
