Hey Owls, Let's Jam with Adobe! 3rd annual adobe creative jam at kennesaw state university

Last year, KSU hosted the largest-ever Creative Jam in the NATION! And, we are excited to bring it back to campus in 2023! If you aren't familiar with this annual creative event, Jams are competitions where college students learn about a specific Adobe program and then compete against one another to test their digital literacy skills. The event occurs over a span of a few weeks, and kicks off with students watching a presentation and receiving training from an Adobe expert. Students then take what they have learned to create unique video content and finally present their work to a jury of industry experts and peers.

Why is this opportunity valuable for students? High-impact, project-based learning assignments help students gain a variety of skills including:

Why would students participate in a competition?

Adobe Premiere Rush is a mobile and desktop video editing app for creativity on the go. Wherever you are, from your phone to your computer, you can shoot, edit, and share high-quality videos. Fun, intuitive, and as fast as social media, it’s the easiest way to star in your followers’ feeds.

With simple desktop and mobile tools for audio, motion graphics, and more, it’s easier than ever to create videos that connect with your audience from wherever you work. • Fine Arts Majors not only learn about the importance of educating youth about museums, but they also create a video highlighting a new exhibit and share it with local elementary students.
  • Biology Majors not only learn about genetics and heredity, but they also create a video for a history class that is learning about different people groups.
  • Business Majors not only learn about marketing a new product or service, but they also plan and shoot a video to share with the target audience.

Who can participate? All fully-enrolled KSU students are welcome to participate. Unfortunately, dual enrollment students under age 18 cannot participate.

How can professors help promote the Jam? KSU professors can help by sharing information about the Creative Jam to students. Once students register for the Jam, we handle registration, communication, and award distribution. Here are all the resources needed to help spread the word:

  • Copy the URL to this website https://express.adobe.com/page/2AnIjaNEKUfx1/ and share it with colleagues across KSU (Faculty Meetings, Committees, Clubs, and Organizations).
  • Download the graphic shown above and post it to D2L.
  • Share, post, and tweet the graphic on social channels (Twitter, Facebook, Insta, and LinkedIn).
  • Print the graphic shown above and post it inside your classroom or lab.
  • "Like" the event on the KSU calendar so that it gets more recognition.
  • Of course, don't forget to "talk up" the competition in your face-to-face classes. Your enthusiasm is a big motivator for students! Fifty-five percent of past Jam participants heard about the event from a faculty member!

Faculty, want to check out the Creative Jam for yourself? You can! Simply register as a "Faculty Observer".

Professors, want to build the Jam into your course content? Wonderful! Here are some ideas:

  • Offer participation in the competition in place of an existing assignment.
  • Offer students the opportunity to participate in the Jam for extra credit or to replace a low grade.
  • Encourage honors classes or honors students to join the competition. Premiere Rush is a great way for students to showcase work.
  • Here's a sample rubric to use for grading purposes.
