The Freshman Getty

Welcome Week officially set off the start to many of the school's favorite traditions, one of them being The Freshman Getty. Last week, on October 4th, the class of 2026, all "beanied up," gathered around The Grotto to experience one of their first OLLA traditions.

Members of the Freshman Council got the perfect seats to enjoy the fun and excitement of the Freshman Getty. On the far left side is Vice President Brianna Rodriguez, followed by Gianna Valladares, Katelyn Freyre, Gaby Blanch, and finally Olivia Iraola, President of the Freshman class.

Seeing as this year Welcome Week took place in the spookiest month of the year, the Freshman Getty was decorated with all the Halloween essentials: skeletons, spiderwebs, and scary spiders.

The seniors, who know what it is like to be new and green to the school, decorated their little sister’s beanies with fun designs and colors, as a symbol that they are with them as they navigate the new OLLA waters. In the picture are some bobcats who are very excited to wear their beanies. Starting from the right is Victoria Puente, followed by Bailan Boucheuareau, Raina Alvarez, and lastly on the left hand side is Alain Availa.

“My favorite thing about the Freshman Getty was the food and the sorbet, because it was super refreshing after school.” Freshman Juliana Sequera said. “I also loved all the fun toppings you could put on it.”

By far the highlight of the day, was the “mummy competition,” where groups of freshmen were timed to see who could create the best Lourdes mummy in the shortest amount of time, by wrapping a freshman in toilet paper from head to toe. In continuation with the spooky theme, the Freshman Council played many Halloween tunes, like the famous “Scooby-Doo” song

“This year the Freshman Getty was super fun because we all dressed up as mummies and then one got picked as the best mummy,” Freshman Sofia Gonzalez said. “We also got to eat ice cream, which was really yummy.”
