The overall goal for the Sustainability Program for the upcoming year is to continue to find ways to be a more sustainable company and help our clients and suppliers do the same. To do so we will continue to align initiatives tracking the ones that make sense and increase employee engagement and education activities.
In 2021, we continued to utilize the tools available through the Green Business Bureau to establish and track actions to develop a program that becomes holistic part of how our company operates. This year MER earned the Gold Certification from the Green Business Bureau. This demonstrates positive progress with room to improve.
The MAST waste tracking system allowed us to gather baseline data regarding the amount of nonhazardous waste that MER transports for clients. In 2022 there will be an increased focus on diverting waste from landfills this year as we now have personnel dedicated to identifying beneficial reuse options for clients.
The Sustainability Committee has also been working with the fleet maintenance department to see if the efficiency of vehicle operations can be improved. We will continue to collaborate with the fleet maintenance department this year to see if it is an initiative that we should continue to pursue. Baseline data for both waste and fleet maintenance have been collected to help develop goals for our sustainability program to achieve.
