Note from our Head

Dear Oakfield families,

There has been much to celebrate in terms of creativity and the performing arts in our school community this week, culminating today in our Platinum Jubilee Day to honour the truly remarkable milestone of our Queen's 70-year reign. It was inspiring as always to see the multitude of brilliant outfits worn by children and adults alike representing the different decades since her accession to the throne in 1952. We do enjoy our dress-up days here at Oakfield, and today's must rank as one of the best ever!

Huge thanks and appreciation go to our chef Angela and her fabulous team for remaining undaunted by the decidedly wet and miserable weather and providing a Jubilee-themed lunch for us all, with different stations in the playground for the children to visit. Earlier in the week we were delighted to reveal the winner and runner-up of our Jubilee Cake Design competition, with the two designs having been turned into reality in the form of superb cakes which have been enjoyed by everyone. Congratulations to our runner-up Florence and winner India-Rose!

Thursday saw a particularly strong focus on music, with the orchestra performing brilliantly to much local acclaim at the Dulwich Festival Youth Concert held at Kingsdale School in the evening. It is a real privilege to listen to such a talented group of children who clearly love their music. Yesterday evening saw the second of our Music Nights organised by OAFs and featuring the instrumental and vocal talents of Zoe Beavon, Sam Howes and Markus Michelucci - we are so fortunate to have such inspiring talent in our midst, and I hope everyone who came enjoyed the evening as much as I did!

Wishing you all a very happy and relaxing weekend, and we look forward to an exciting week for Year 6 as they leave for their residential trip to Rockley Point in Dorset on Monday morning.

Have lovely weekends all,

Moyra Thompson

Platinum Jubilee Celebration Day

It may have started wet and wild but that doesn't stop Oakfield! We have had an amazing Jubilee Celebration Day featuring an AMAZING class assembly from 1JM presenting, acting and dancing their way through the story of Queen Elizabeth's accession to the throne and a reminder of what she has done for the country over the 70 years of her reign including several little-known facts they learnt during their recent visit to Buckingham Palace.

The whole school were invited to dress up and celebrate one decade of the Queen's reign and so many of the costumes were truly brilliant with the 1950s represented all the way up to the 2020s. Meanwhile there was a veritable Elizabethan feast put on by Angela and the team including the must-have coronation chicken and cupcakes with royal icing! Enjoy the photos below for just some snaps of the fun that was had...

Cake Competition

Congratulation to our winning cake designers who then had their cake creations baked by Angela and her team!

Oakfield Orchestra

What a fantastic performance from our Oakfield orchestra at the Dulwich Festival Youth Concert last night. They had to wait until the very end as they closed the evening's programme of music but it is no exaggeration to say they truly stole the show. Thank you to the incredible talent of Matilda, Martin, Holly, Beatrice, Scarlett, Timmy and Jesse along with our conductor Sarah Coles as well as the parents for such sterling support!

A Roll of Honour for all orchestra members was richly deserved and we have heard plaudits come in from Oakfield and non-Oakfield audience members alike!

Enjoy a performance of one of the pieces below!
