The music of Ana Barajas is a spiritual journey on the backroads from the mystic Colombian Andes to the heart of Texas.
This singer/songwriter and producer explores a whole palette of sounds and textures through her music creating a personal and intriguing sound fusing elements of latin folk, tribal sounds, and electronic.
Her music is naturally fueled by diversity, in part, because of her early sonic experiences. Ana learned to sing with the traditional music from the Colombian Altiplano and at age 5 took her first music lessons in a classical music school. Later on she got involved in the Colombian metal scene and in 2011 after moving to Austin, she started working on her Solo project, for which Ana has released 2 EPs Marea Lunar (2013), the single “Lady” (2016), her first full length album “The Botany of Dreams” (2018) and in 2022 the single Ojos Bonitos, a return to her roots in traditional music. She has also collaborated for recordings and live performances with an extensive list of artists from Rock and Metal to Folk, Electronic and Jazz.
In 2023 Ana Barajas joins forces with Bolivian musician and composer Eduardo Cassapia, Salvadoran singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mauricio Callejas and Colombian bassist Andrés Acevedo, who form the ensemble Cruz del Sur. With them, Ana presents a repertoire of her own songs and versions of South American Folklore classics, taking each song to an unexplored terrain fusing the sound of traditional instruments like Andean Flutes, charango, Colombian Gaita and traditional percussions with electric guitar, electric bass and electronic sounds.
