"It has been an incredible honor to be Seward Community Co-op’s general manager these last 18 years. There have been so many amazing accomplishments. I have worked with so many wonderful people. I am proud of what our co-op community has been able to accomplish."
Usually, the Ends letter from the Board President is about our future plans in general. In the past three years, I have written about the racial reckoning of our society and our town. The pain and sorrow after the murder of George Floyd and uprising that followed is still with us. Healing from grief does not operate under any timeframe. In the meantime, we have the opportunity to continue to be compassionate toward ourselves and others. This year, change is upon our co-op and it will impact our co-op for the next 50 years.
2022 Financial Summary
The summary financial statements presented here are for the co-op’s fiscal year (FY) 2022, which ended June 30. The statements have been audited by Mahoney CPAs and Advisors. A complete copy of this audit is available to owners upon request.
During this past year, the pandemic continued to present challenges throughout the organization. Additionally, the staffing shortages and high inflation seen throughout the broader economy have also impacted the co-op. Despite these factors, due to the New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) financing we secured to build the Friendship store, we achieved pre-tax net income of over $2 million. This allows us to issue our first patronage refund since FY2015.
