Student Book Review
A year 12 student Rabia has completed the book Six Of Crows, and would like to share her thoughts on it.
" As the story starts off by throwing you into an already built world with its own nations, religions, gangs, languages, etc. it can be a little hard to get into it at first.
However, after the first few (short) chapters, the character's and world building is so well crafted that you can't help but turn page after page. The book is mainly based on a heist but the switching of P.O.V.S between the main cast makes it an incredibly fun read. They all have something sympathetic or understandable about them, whether it's moral conflict, personal obstacles, or a tragic back story.
My favorite part of the book was its found family trope - the way the characters interact is 'very real' and humane till the point that even the suggestion of a betrayal nearly made me throw the book across the room
Minus the world buildings aspect, the heist plot can be a little challenging to keep up with but, chances are, the characters themselves don't know what's going on. Except from Kaz. Kaz always knows"
Rabia's personal rating of the book is 5/5 The average rating of the book is 4.56/5

TRAINERS
Trainers such as Jordan's, Air forces, Yeezys and Balenciaga's etc have regained popularity over the past few years. Which have made it easy for entrepreneurs such as resellers such as 19thessentials on Instagram, to gain a sums of profit due to the high demand in these 3 types of trainers + more.
JORDANS
Jordan's date back to late 1984, which some of you may not have known. The original Air Jordan trainers were produced exclusively for Michael Jordan. Which were then released to the public on April 1st 1985. In 2014 Jordan's sales dipped dramatically. But through various collaborations the brand was brought back to life in late 2017, and they are very popular till this day.
There are many different typed of Jordan's such as Jordan 1s, 11s, 4s and more. Some Jordan's such as Air Jordan 4 Retro GS 'White Oreo, are very popular at the moment yet their supply is very low, they still have a high demand for them even though the are very expensive at the moment.
Some people tend to buy them because of fashion trends, but others because they genuinely like them. If you want to buy a specific type of Jordan people would look for resellers on go on stock-x, but if they are common ones you could go into shops like Footasylem, Footlocker, JD, or even Nike so basically any of your local trainer or sports shop.
AIR FORCES
"Air in the box" was the slogan for Nike Air Force One. Nike launched the iconic trainer in 1982 as the first basketball trainer designed by Bruce Kilgore. Air forces have been popular for a very long period of time, since early 2000. (Supposedly this was mainly due to rappers like Nelly.) Especially, Air force 1s then the black ones.
The Nike Air Force One has become an icon of fashion, style, and comfort. People from every age group adore these trainers for having distinctive shapes and versatile designs. Recently resellers who customise Air forces have become very popular, as it's a way for people to get their exact shoe they desire. The popularity of the brand is as strong as ever, and one reason for this is that the airforce one's transcends the boundaries of culture. Either white, black, any colour, low, mid, or high top, they go well with literally anything.
YEEZY
These were first developed in 2007 by Kanye West and Adidas. He created a long, rich, and slightly strange Yeezy history that just won’t seem to come to an end. Everyone wanted to get their hands on these kicks and their feet in them. Not only because Yeezys were and still are very popular/trendy but the popularity is starting to ease down. But they were also an even bigger flip on the trainer reselling market...
The Adidas Yeezy trainers were re-introduced in 2015 and haven’t stopped selling ever since they keep on getting better and better. These trainers have become so popular that new drops typically sell out in under a minute which is why people resort to using trainer bots when it comes to any Yeezy. They were also an even bigger flip on the reseller market. However the popularity is starting to die down.

Review on the Victoria and Albert Museum
If you have ever considered visiting the V&A in South Kensington, do not hesitate to go! If you enjoy fantasising about the different countries and what their main features are, or enjoy wondering the rooms and corridors bombarded with the Victorian Eras outfits - then this is the place for you. The Museum itself is an entertaining place to visit. Wondering around for hours and hours - not understanding how time passed so quickly. Not to forget, if you have an interest in photography I would most certainly advise you to visit the Victorian and Albert Museum. So many beautiful shots could be taken...
And ofcourse - the Instagram worthy photos you can get here are definitely worth it. Each section of the V&A is designed so unique compared to one another. A room that feels like you're in Ancient Rome... statues everywhere and a waterfall plotted in the middle of the Museum. Marble effects all over the stairs and walls... the pictures are amazing! The interior in the Victorian and Albert Museum is honestly beautifully presented, this place is worth the visit.
And not to mention, entry to the Victorian and Albert Museum is completely free.

Wireless 2021
Last year's wireless consisted of Megan Thee Stallion, Gunna, Megos, Skepta, DBE, Headie One, Unknown T, SL, Future and many more talented artists. These artists come from all over the world/ all over the UK to perform, hence why wireless is very popular in the uk. It gives us the opportunity to see our favourite artists live.
Wireless is a yearly rap music festival owned and managed by Live Nation, that occurs in the UK in approximately the 3 same locations each year, Finsbury park, crystal palace, and Birmingham during July. Tickets normally range from about £105 - £200+ depending on what type of ticket you purchase + booking fees.
Wireless officially started in June 2005 by Live Nation. The capacity for Wireless has been about 50,000 people. It's a multi-day festival that lasts for about 2-3 days
Wireless never intended to be a rap festival it was originally a rock and pop festival. But in more recent years has become synonymous with rap music – an identity transformation that has brought the show immense success and acclaim among Hip Hop fans worldwide
It is a way for people to express themselves, as it is like a celebration to celebrate artists success in the music industry. it's also a way to bring everyone together with their love of music/ a common interest.

Milk and Honey book review
By Rupi Kaur
I am sure many of you have either read or heard about the book ‘Milk and Honey’ by the author Rupi Kaur. One element about Milk and Honey that I personally find very heart-warming is how Rupi Kaur emphasises her emotions through poetry and brings us as readers along her rough journey. It's also a very brave and courageous element to uphold - as she allowed millions and millions of readers reading along her rocky journey. Nevertheless, this did not prevent her from writing many other collections of books such as Homebody and the sun and her flowers. This book is a collection based on her survival. Divided into four sections, with each section serving a different purpose relevant to Rupi Kaurs experiences.
Not to mention, Rupi Kaur is #1 New Yorks Best Selling Author.

PHOTOGRAPHY: HOW THE LIGHT HITS
Lumen Printing is an old method of photography developed in the 19th century. Two key artists that used this for their work are John Fobes and Paul Sissind. It is a way of using UV (sunlight) to create detailed images of random objects. We have been studying this process in our year 12 photography A level lessons. Lumen printing is very easy to do. You will need: a base board, a piece of glass, photographic paper, clips, and objects of your choice (these objects must be thing and delicate with gaps in to allow the light to add detail). The photographic paper can be found at low prices as you can use some that has been opened in light and can longer be used for developing analogue film. You start by placing the paper on the board and your chosen object on the paper. Then, you careful place the glass on top and clip them together. This gets placed outside where the sun can hit it and left to develop. This does not take a set amount of time as it depends on the finish you want and the strength of the UV rays from the sun. It could take 20 minutes or could take months.

Tate Modern
Tate Modern is Britain's national museum of modern and contemporary art from around the world designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. It holds the nation’s collection of modern art from 1900 to this present day. With 5.7 million visitors it is the top ten most visited museums and galleries in the world and the collection holds masterpieces of international and British modern art. Tate Modern in the former bankside power station, located near the bankside area of the London borough of Southwark. The Tate is comprised of several buildings, there are escalators in each leading to the ehibits. At the top of the building there is a viewpoint where you can see the city skyline. Its free and amazing and its worth a trip alone.
The Tate is a place to visit famous and popular artists like Picasso, Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Mark Rothko, etc. Not too expensive and not to cheap. The entry remains free for everyone with a charge for some exhibitions. Booking is recommended as it can become remarkably busy with tickets selling out for exhibitions. Prices range from £15-£25 with tickets for children from the ages of 12-18 for £5.
Tate Modern is open daily from 10am to 6pm. The access to Tate Modern is quick and easy with Charing Cross station just a 10-minute walk away and a tube station either from Southwark or Blackfriars 5 mins away.
One exhibition that i recommend that you should book a ticket for is Lubaina Himid. Himid is known for her innovative approaches to painting and to social engagement. She has been pivotal in the UK since the 1980s for her contributions to the British Black arts movement, making space for the expression and recognition of Black experience and women’s creativity.
Lubaina Himid was born in 1954 is a British artist and curator. She is a professor of contemporary art at the University of Central Lancashire. Her art mostly focuses on themes of cultural history and reclaiming identities. Himid creates drawings, paintings, prints and installations. She paints on a variety of surfaces, including ceramic and wood, often producing objects with performative potential involving space and the surrounding. Himid is deeply engaged with the problem of the lack of representation of Black and Asian women in the art world, and she has been committed to showing the work of underrepresented contemporaries. Bright, graphic, and rich in color and symbolic referents, her images recall history paintings and eighteenth-century British satirical cartoons.

Cliché verre
Cliché verre is a another old method of photography but it uses ink instead of light. I like this process because you feel a lot more involved in developing your images. You will need: a tray, black ink, two rollers, acetate, tape, newspaper, and objects of your choice (these do not need to be as delicate or thin as the ones used for lumen printing since a lot of detail is not necessarily the goal).
The first step is rolling out a small amount of ink on the tray to put a layer on the roller. Then you roll this over your object that’s on top of a piece of newspaper to protect the surface you’re working on. once you’ve done this, you need to put acetate on top of your chosen object as well as a piece of newspaper. use your clean roller to press the acetate onto the object to transfer the ink. The last step is to put another piece of acetate onto the side that has ink on and tape it together. to develop the image you print it onto photographic paper and follow the same steps as developing regular analogue film.

Crocheting
Student SC at LPGS uses crochet as a method of creating different textiles such as bags, blankets, hats, scarves etc. It is a great skill to learn because it is quite easy to pick up the basics and allows you to create so many things.
List of materials:
- Crochet hooks (different sizes depending on the wool)
- Embroidery thread (optional)
- Sewing scissors (normal scissor work too but sewing scissors are smaller, more precise, and sharper)
- Yarn/wool (SC uses acrylic yarn because it is cheaper and allergy friendly)
- Haberdashery/darning needles (these come in lots of different shapes but a straight yarn needle will work just fine for beginners)
- Polyester sewing thread
Steps/process
- You need to hold the hook a bit like you would a butter knife, in your dominant hand
- Make a loop with the yarn
- And then pull it through to make a slip knot. Put the hook into that and tighten
- Hold the yarn in your non dominant hand
- Hook the thread like so
- And then pull it through to make the 1st chain
- Repeat this a few times to get a basic chain - it will build up quickly once you get the hang of it
- To build up more rows, hook it again
- Loop through the chain nearest the hook and pull the yarn through
- Pull the yarn through the 1st 2 loops on the hook
- And then through the next two loops
- Repeat this along to build a new row
