2023 Teacher of the Year
- In the spirit of National Compliment Day, It's that time of year to nominate the 2023 Red Clay Teacher of the Year.
- Being selected as a Teacher of the Year is one of the highest honors and compliment the district bestows on Red Clay teachers.
- The nomination window opens on Monday, January 24, 2022 and closes on Monday, February 7, 2022.
Dr. Willie Robinson
- We want to congratulate Dr. Willie Robinson on his retirement.
- He has served Cab for over ten years and deserves recognition for his positive contributions to the success of Cab Calloway.
- Please feel free to send an email, card, or note of gratitude for his service to our students and staff.
- We have begun the process of posting the position for an Assistant Dean of Culture and Climate.
Community Reminders:
- All community members (students and staff) please use daily health self screener before entering the school building and follow the Covid-19 Protocols.
- Please review the recommendations by Nurse Whaler regarding testing and vaccination.
- All students must have a hall pass to go to any assigned area.
- Vending Machine access is limited to arrival, before lunch, and dismissal. There is no vending machine access during class, activity, or advisory period.
Alternative Lunch Seating Option:
As COVID spread increases and schools reopen, the administration is taking measures to increase social distancing during lunch time.
- The following additional spaces have been identified to promote adequate spacing while eating:
- Lobby Area: Seniors are permitted to eat in the lobby area.
- Request Form will need to be completed Friday for access to preferred seating.
- Outdoor heated tents: Seating and heating have been installed in the red tents in the courtyard, which will be available for use by Monday January 10, 2022. (Optional)
- All students are welcome to use this space, as well as the portico seating and picnic tables.
- Science/6th grade wing: student desks and floor seating will be added to these first floor areas for additional space. These areas are available to all students.
- Students must maximize social distancing of at least 3 feet whenever possible in the cafe.
Choice Assessment and Auditions:

Helen DeGuzman
- We are excited to share the news that calista earned a spot on the USA taekwondo national poomsae team this past weekend after competing in the grand slam tournament in Colorado Springs!
- She competed in a challenging five events and placed fifth in freestyle pairs, fifth in pairs, third in individual, silver medal in freestyle teams, and gold in cadet girl team (which earned her national team spot).
Javier Bennett
- We are pleased to share that sophomore Javier Bennett has been working with Atlantic Records recording artist Catie Turner on a remix of her hit song “God Must Hate Me”.
- Catie placed number 7 on American Idol’s season 16 and went on to sign with Atlantic Records.
- Catie’s manager presented the remix to the record label. Not only did they love it, they accepted it.
- Javier co-wrote the lyrics, is featured on the record, and composed and produced 100% of the track.
- The record is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, January 18th.

Gabriela Salvador-Riera
- The 2022 Festival and national summit, is presented in partnership with the Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative (CMPI) and National Instrumentalist Mentoring and Advancement Network (NIMAN).
- The Festival and Summit will bring together over 100 students and institutional leaders from across the country for three days of musical learning, strategic conversations and collaboration.
- Through amplifying the voices and talents of student musicians, the Festival will bring further awareness to the exceptional capacity of pathway programs to nurture the future generations of orchestral musicians.
- Three days of rehearsals and coachings with CSO Sir Georg Solti Conducting Apprentice Lina Gonzalez-Granados will culminate with student musicians working side-by-side in a Festival Orchestra with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Chicago Sinfonietta, in an open rehearsal led by CSO Zell Music Director Riccardo Muti.
Kevin Mitchell
- Kevin is the semifinals for the MLK Voice contest.
- MLK Voice 4 Youth is at statewide spoke word contest for high school students grade 9-12.
- The contest challenges students to reflect and creatively share how Dr. King’s legacy guides their response to today’s challenges.
- Semi-Finals will be at the Grand Opera House on 2/26/22.
- Please save the date for the Class of 2022 Graduation on June 3, 2022.
- Graduation is tentatively scheduled for 7:00 PM at Cab Calloway in the theatre.
- The time and location may be subject to change to outdoors (Football Field @5:30 PM)
