Honey's Homebrewed Café By Jason Zhou '23 and Emilie Kirschner '23

Honey’s Homebrewed Café is a compact bakery with delicate decorations. The “Hive” developed its own recipe for breakfast sandwiches and sticky buns, which has attracted many customers. The shop is looking to expand into a sit-in café with delivery options in early summer.

Melinda Hoagey and her sister Melanie McKnight own the shop, and they named it in honor of their late grandmother Honey. “We try to bring our family recipes into our establishment and just make it a place where people want to come and get homemade food, you know, comfort food,” Hoagey said. Hoagey and McKnight have deep roots in the community. “I'm a people person. My sister is a people person. We're from Pottstown. A lot of people that come here know us. We may even know their family members. So I think one of the biggest things for us is getting to know our customers and their names and just developing friendships with them,” Hoagey explained. In the back kitchen, the sisters work together tacitly. “We put a lot of love into it. And we would want to just continue to grow in our community and become like a staple for people to come and, you know, just feel comfortable being here,” Hoagey said. Photos by Jason Zhou '23
