After spending two difficult seasons due to COVID-19 restrictions, Huron Men’s Swim & Dive team started the 2021-2022 season in November, and successfully ended their journey in March 12.

"Last year was a lot harder than this year. We had practice but the season was about half the length. It didn't start until the end of January. This season, we started on time in November, so these are a little easier this year than last year. More back to normal." Eric Stanczyk, Head Coach

Becoming a Diver

Despite Huron has been having men's diving team for years, there were no divers to make the team active this past two years. This year, six swimmers joined the diving team led by the diving coach, Claire Bauer.

"I joined the dive team because we didn't have one and I knew I could get other people to try diving if I did it with them. I would 100% recommend people give it a try. It's a different kind of challenge and mental game you have to do with yourself, and it's exciting to learn all the different dives." Michael Shahine, 12

Senior Night

Huron held senior nights at halftime in the meet vs. Bedford, which took place on Feb. 10. Seniors had time to take photos with family and friends.

"It was by far my favorite season. The team is super close, and we all have each other's back. The best memory I had this season was getting Culver's as a team after our final meet at SEC's. There were a lot of emotions with it being the last meet and the end of the season, but getting to go out and eat with the team one last time meant a lot." Senior Michael Shahine, captain of the Huron swim team.

Reflections

"The best memory I have from this season is probably the away meet we has in Jackson. The pool was very good, the energy from the team was on point, and the bus rides were very fun." Kenneth Jiang, 11 (right)
"One thing I find special about the swim team is that we are a lot closer to each other, even though swimming isn’t always a team sport. That’s maybe because we always see each other in speedos. We’re just like a family." Sahir Getzen, 11
