Fall semester is just around the corner, and TAMIU looks forward to welcoming new students, faculty and members of our administration and staff.
- We are proud to announce that TAMIU was named the recipient of a $1,399,532 in federal funding thanks to the unwavering support of Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28). The $1,199,532 will be used for TAMIU's Preparing STEM Majors as Outstanding Certified Secondary Mathematics Teachers for South Texas program, and $200,000 will be used for TAMIU's Track 1 Project. - This Fall, TAMIU's Office of Financial Aid welcomes students with enhanced services designed to support their higher education and financial aid needs. We have awarded over $36 million in financial aid to students attending TAMIU this Fall. Funds are still available for qualified students who wish to apply. Learn how to apply here.
- TAMIU is a partner in a new initiative that is set to transform Laredo into a Learning City. Laredo Learns and its community partners have created the Brain Bag, a resource for new parents filled with resource materials. New parents can consider the Brain Bag a as a tool to help them ensure their children meet critical growth and learning benchmarks for children. Learn about the initiative here.

- Registration for Fall 2023 is underway. Classes start Monday, Aug. 28. Here’s more via the Registration Hub. Remember: Tuition and fees remain frozen for the third year in a row, helping you to save on your degree. Here’s the details.

- Our next Dusty Camp for Orientation is Aug. 10 – 11. The last Dusty Camp is Aug. 24 – 25. We’re excited to welcome new students to TAMIU! Find out more about the Dusty Camp experience here.
- If your degree is still pending, our “Closer Than Ever” program helps former students complete their degrees. We have new scholarship opportunities to assist TAMIU students in their comeback story. Programs and emergency grants are here for those experiencing financial hardship, housing and food insecurity, medical expenses, and lack of educational support/supplies. Here’s more.
- Did you or anyone you know participate in a Reading the Globe program over the past 15 years? The RTG Program is about to celebrate its15th Anniversary and we’d like to hear from our RTG alums about their experience. Find out more.
- Free COVID-19 Testing Kits can be secured at the offices of Student Health, and in lobby/reception areas in Environmental Health and Safety (inside our Physical Plant) and the University Police Department.
- Heading outdoors during peak heat periods? Stay hydrated and apply sunscreen when heading outdoors during peak heat periods. Light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and hats provide additional protection during this intense heatwave.

Rep. Cuellar Announces $1,399,532 in Federal Funding for TAMIU
U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $1,399,532 in federal funding for TAMIU, with $1,199,532 used for a Preparing STEM Majors as Outstanding Certified Secondary Mathematics Teachers for South Texas program, and $200,000 will be used for a Track 1 Project. Both awards were provided by the National Science Foundation.
Registration for the Fall 2023 Semester Continues at TAMIU
Registration for the Fall 2023 semester is underway. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 28, 2023. Late registration ends Friday, Sept. 1.
TAMIU Financial Aid Welcomes Fall Students with Enhanced Services
TAMIU has so far awarded over $36 million in financial aid to students attending TAMIU this Fall and funds are still available for qualified students who wish to apply.

TAMIU Ballet Folklórico Students Travel to Mexico City, Take Part in Dance Master Classes
Five undergraduate students studying Ballet Folklórico at TAMIU recently traveled to Mexico City to undergo a series of dance master classes at the Escuela de Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández. The students, led by Nayeli Lopez, adjunct faculty of Dance and advisor of the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico Club, took part in daily rigorous dance classes taught by folklórico maestros and maestras. Students who attended the summer classes were Clarissa Buenrostro, Angelica Favela, Carolina Hinojosa, Mario López, and Alexa Sanchez.
Laredo Learns Launches New 'Brain Bag' Initiative to Help New Parents Meet Benchmarks for Kids
Laredo Learns and its community partners have created the Brain Bag as a resource filled with learning materials. Included are guidance, parenting tips, online child development insights and prompts, and more. New parents can consider the Brain Bag as a tool to help them ensure their children meet critical growth and learning benchmarks for their children.
TAMIU Athletics Update
TAMIU is a member of the Lone Star Conference and competes in 11 sports: volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's golf.
