ID3: Curating and Evaluating Resources for Faculty Introduction

My name is Katie Profeta! I currently live in Vero Beach, Florida but was born in Edison, New Jersey.

I obtained my BS and MS in Animal Science from the University of Florida with minors in Agribusiness Management and Ag Education and Communication followed by a graduate certificate in Web Design and Online Communication. In December 2016, I completed an additional Master's Degree at the University of Central Florida in Instructional Design & Technology with a focus on e-Learning.

I am currently the Director of IRSC Online at Indian River State College (IRSC). I have been working at IRSC for almost 9 years in a number of positions including Virtual Campus Technician, Course Developer and Trainer, Instructional Designer, and adjunct faculty. Currently, my responsibilities include the design and development of online and blended courses, course evaluation, serving as a Quality Matters peer reviewer and QM Coordinator, project management, designing and delivering training as needed, designing and developing interactions for online courses and trainings, and recording and editing videos for training purposes.

While the main portion of my current role is not instructional design, I do oversee a team of instructional designers and course developers. My goal is to bring back new ideas, processes, and more to my team so we can continue to make our workflow effective and efficient for our students and subject matter experts. Personally, my strengths as an instructional designer lie in accessibility and creating inclusive courses. The area that I’d like to improve upon is finding ways to incorporate more support for learners that are struggling in the online/higher education environment.
