TERM THREE EVENTS Whilst our focus is still fairly and squarely on Term 2, it is timely to draw your attention to the key dates in a fairly busy term ahead of us. As mentioned above, we have the 3 Way Conferences scheduled for the first Wednesday of Term (July 13), closely followed by the Grade 6 camp to Bairnsdale in Week 2 (July 18 to 22). It will be the Grade 3s turn when August 8 dawns, with their three day camp taking them to Arrabri Lodge in Warburton East. Grade 5s have their Family Life program from August 2, whilst our 2023 transition program for our Foundation students has three events in Term 3 with Story Land (August 9), Maths Land (August 24) and PMP Land (September 6). We are also hosting a chess tournament on September 1 to usher in spring! School Council is scheduled for August 9 and September 13, and early notice – our Term 3 working bee is to be held on Sunday August 14. Lots of dates there to commit to memory or, preferably, jot down some where!

We are expecting the building company to begin setting up in late August – we will let you know all of the arrangements when we know them!!

A short week and a brief Principal’s report this week. The winter solstice beckons next Tuesday!

Have a great weekend.

Kind regards,

Bill Kersing

Principal

Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Every member of our school community has a right to feel safe and be protected.

The Department of Education and Training has released the Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy that describes the positive behaviour expected from parents, carers, and other adults in Victorian school communities. The policy sets clear standards of behaviour to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and adults.

There are also resources to support safe and respectful relationships in our school community, including information about getting involved in the school, advice on how to raise a concern or complaint, and parenting support resources. You can find the new policy and these resources here.

You may also see a new poster up around our school, promoting positive behaviour.

School Uniforms It was lovely to see many families taking advantage of our ‘special’ second hand uniform sale on Wednesday afternoon. Being able to purchase school uniform items for $2.00 is certainly a bargain.

Could I please request/beg that all uniform items, especially jumpers be clearly named so that misplaced items can be returned to students.

Sadly, our lost property bin (near the music room) always seems to be overflowing with un-named jumpers. We cannot return items if we do not know who they belong to. Five or ten minutes spent clearly naming items can save a lot of stress and lost time down the track.

Please, please, please!

New Uniform Items We have recently had numerous requests to add a warm weather jacket to our uniform as well as a winter beanie. We have spoken with our supplier and they will hopefully be able to provide the garments in the coming months. I realise it may be too late for this winter but we will be ready for the next arctic blast.

The weather jacket is fleecy lined and will have a waterproof outer shell. It will not have the school logo on it, so it will be perfect for weekend wear as well. The green beanie will have VPS sewn onto the front. Like our school hat, we would prefer that the school beanie is only worn at school.

I will let you know when both items will be available for order. If you would like to have a look at the weather jacket, there is a sample available in the school foyer, just inside the front door.

Have a lovely week.

Gill

3 Way Conferences You can now book your child's 3-Way Conference by logging into Compass. These are being held on Wednesday 13th July between 10am and 7pm and is a Student Free Day. If you have any difficulties with booking these, please contact the office on 9459 1512.

PLANNING WEEK Next week (June 20 - 24) will be Planning Week across the school.

Throughout the week, all classroom teachers will be timetabled to spend a whole day planning for Term 3, along with the other teachers in their team. Specialist and Support teachers also receive time throughout the week to plan for the following term. Teachers meet together to reflect and provide feedback on the learning that has occurred across this term, discuss student data that has been collected and use this information to form future planning.

The teaching and learning for Term 3 will be discussed and planned, with planners being developed for English and Mathematics. Inquiry units, will be also be reviewed and planned. Common assessment tasks will also be documented and excursions and in school activities researched and booked.

Planning Week allows our staff the opportunity to engage in professional discussions and develop the rich, differentiated learning programs that allow our students to engage fully in their learning.

Teaching teams will plan on the following days with students having specialist lessons for the day:

  • Monday – Year 2 and Year 6
  • Tuesday – Year 1
  • Wednesday – Year 3 and Year 4
  • Thursday – Foundation and Year 5
  • Friday – Specialists

Parents And Friends - YOU ARE INVITED! On Thursday the 9th June, we attempted to have the 2022 Annual General Meeting for the Viewbank Primary School, Parents and Friends Committee. Unfortunately, we only had 3 parents and 2 staff members turn up.

So, on Tuesday 21st June at 7:30pm, we are having a short (30 minutes) meeting via Webex (details below), to give a brief introduction to the P&F as well as to hear some of your ideas. You may think that you don’t have the knowledge or skills to be able to contribute, but this is not true – everyone is welcome. For those of you who may have been on a committee at a kindergarten before, your time commitment would be less, as the saying goes ‘many hands make light work’.

Our current P&F President is Carol, and this is her last year as a parent at the school. We desperately need more parents, guardians or even grandparents to be involved.

Money raised by the P&F in the past has contributed to the Tiger Turf and playground upgrades - projects that directly benefit the students and the community. With our major school upgrade beginning later this year, there will be plenty of projects that will require some extra funds.

If you cannot make it, but would still like to be involved, please contact the office.

P&F Meeting – Online via Webe - Tuesday 21st June at 7:30pm

Please see Compass for meeting link, meeting number and passcode

Have a great weekend.

Patrick
