Wyoming. signature aesthetic

On a hot summer afternoon at the intersection of routes 20 and 270 in Manville, Wyoming the only sound you hear are the big trucks passing by and the clanking, slow moving, rusted legs of the horse and rider atop the sign outside the 3 Sisters Truck Stop.

If the rider is lopen, the truck stop is open. And you just might stop, because who knows where the next lunch place might be?

There is a plain spoken manner to the commercial signage of the American west. It's a cross between taciturn and carnival barker. There are no wasted words, but they are presented in bold font and colors that are hard to ignore.

These signs, mostly found in Cheyenne, leave no doubt as to the intentions of the proprietors. How they make a living. What they have to sell. It makes sense given the distance people need to travel to find things in most of Wyoming.

There's no need for lots of conversation, or dancing around the sage brush.

Cheyenne.
