Building in Character Changes a House to a Home.
Granata Design is an industrial design firm that has spent 25 years designing boats for the recreational boat industry. Headed by Peter Granata, the firm has been responsible for “everything above the waterline” on many boats like Grady White, MasterCraft, and Cobalt.
Granata Design works with outside suppliers and in-house engineers to merge the raw materials with the nuts and bolts and blending them together into award winning designs.
On the side, however, Peter has had a 19 year hobby. He designs "Home." Over the years, he’s privately designed one-of-a-kind custom homes for his own residences, for several friends, and for many investment properties.
After Peter designed this home in Palmetto Bluff, there were so many requests for design assistance, that he’s needed to create a secondary division to his business dedicated exclusively to home design.
In Peter's Words:
"True art is not relegated to a wall in your home. It is, instead, a depiction of the qualities of life that you embrace. There is an emotional value to art. When art becomes nothing more than decorative it becomes an adornment, mere decoration.
When you have the opportunity to choose the home you want, your effort is quantified by the requirements of practicality first. Does it have the necessary space, is it in location that you prefer, is the cost appropriate. After all of that, it still comes down to how well it suits your emotional preferences. (Often expressed in “I love that” or “I hate that.”)
Once the house is obtained, the next step is, usually, a rush to decorate. That’s where I say. Whoa! Stop! Think in terms of who you are, what do you hold dear. You could always rush to decorate in the latest trend, but truthfully, that’s for people who hide from who they are, know little about themselves, or find comfort in being like everybody else.
This home is now YOUR canvas. Create something that echos you. Art isn’t just the things you hang on a wall. The entire home is but a very large canvas. In many ways, it’s a stage where the seasons of your life will be lived. It’s important to live your life in a place that is reflective of your sentiments. Embrace the floor, walls, and ceiling as elements of space that can be visually created into something you love, something that, in its entirety, represents your values.
Don’t sit down with a “decorator” that shows you all the things you could do on the first visit. Find someone that asks about your life and what you value. This home should be created out of your emotions, not the decorator’s. Make your home an art form that you can enjoy every day."
Peter works with you to design a home that works with your budget and vision. He’s able to lead you through the process of building a custom home. Peter is an Industrial Designer. This means he works with engineers and architects but he doesn't replace them. He can work with all the phases and sizes of the project. He helps with remodeling projects or complete builds of the entire new home. He can also work with your interior designer to help merge the architectural character into the decor so that the finishing touches aren't just overlaid on a bland design. Peter can plan the project from start to finish and he has carefully selected the architects, contractors, and decorators with whom he works... or he can work with your professionals.
This is the perfect way to merge your dreams of home with the suppliers selections, the architect’s blueprints, and the construction crews' hammers to produce an amazing space that no one can duplicate. It’s yours. Just yours.
