UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #14

Pre/K1:Community helpers - Preschool/K1 have been inquiring about communities. This term our parents have shared about their jobs and brought in exciting activities for the learners to explore different community helpers and how they help us. We have been reflecting on what we want to be when we grow up to finish off our Unit. Learners will be showcasing more about our Unit during our Student led conference. Stay tuned!
Y1: Exploring the science lab - Year 1 and Year 7/8 have been working together in our science lab conducting various different experiments. This was an opportunity for Year 1 to experience learning within our science lab and for Year 7/8 to work on their leadership skills with the younger learners. Everyone had a lot of fun and we look forward to our next adventure to the science lab! Well done Year 1 for being inquirers and risk-takers during this experience.
Y3 - Our latest unit was about how people create organisations to solve problems to help their ideas happen, and make money. Each student created their own pretend toy company organisation and thought of a name, logo and then designed an actual product. They then had to make a persuasive poster advertising it, and some students created a video too. Here are some examples of their persuasive posters. Pictured from top left: Spy’s, Harry’s, IQ’s and Glacier’s.
Y5/6: Chemical reactions - Our class is now knowledgeable regarding the scientific method. We used this knowledge to complete a science experiment to find out which chemical reactions result in an irreversible reaction. The students are looking forward to showing their parents what they have been learning when they take part in our student led conferences next week. See you all then!
Y9/10: International mindedness - Students in Year 9/10 showcased their studies on diverse topics, highlighting the integration of international mindedness. This was held as part of the international mindedness assembly and they were able to showcase their learning to fellow students and parents. Well done Year 9/10!
EAL: Superlative adjectives - Our learners in Years 5/6 have been learning about superlative adjectives. They have been using their research skills to find out about some of the interesting people and things in our world. Presenting their research was a great way to share information and demonstrate their communication skills.

Student success at UDIS: Natalie in Y3

Natalie attended the ATOD International Dance Competition from the 11 - 19th of March this year in Bangkok. She was placed 4th in her category. Well done to Natalie for being a risk-taker and also for keeping a good balance between learning at school and doing an activity you love to do outside of school!

Student council assembly

Our student council recently held their own assembly for PY and MY students. Under their steadfast leadership of the council, the assembly on Thursday was brilliantly orchestrated, with a multitude of activities devised for the eager participation of our young scholars.
