Kia ora koutou and welcome to our first newsletter for 2023. It was wonderful to have the support of Ngāti Whātua ki Kaipara and Te Herenga Waka o Orewa Marae to officially open our buildings. Both the Dawn blessing and 9am Mihi Whakatau with our families were lovely occasions and gave a nice sense of formality to start our year.
The first week flew by quickly with happy faces both inside the classes and enjoying the sunshine at lunchtimes. Our team have loved getting to know our children and it has been wonderful seeing the new friendships made, spill over so quickly into after school play dates.
Obviously that nice weather changed on us all at the end of Week 1 and I want to thank our community for how well they all adapted to the changing circumstances and joined in the activities for learning at home and then connecting online Tuesday. It has been fantastic to see everyone back onsite now after the short, sharp disruption of Cyclone Gabrielle.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS - HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE START OF SCHOOL
Our uniforms are now in stock and available to purchase at this link: https://www.argyleonline.co.nz/shop/rodney/nukumea-primary-school
It has been wonderful to see the smiling faces as kids proudly show up in their brand new uniform shirts. A reminder that you can also order the navy shorts and skorts either through the link from Argyle or purchase navy shorts/skirts/pants from any store of your choice.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The Auckland Regional Dental Service (ARDS) is a Te Whatu Ora-operated service, which provides free dental care to children across the greater Auckland areas. In order to prevent any eligible children missing out on receiving free dental care, ARDS is cross-checking their own records with school rolls.
For our children’s better oral health and wellbeing, our school roll will be shared with the service as required. To find out more information about ARDS, please visit ards.co.nz or call 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583).

We are delighted to launch our communication and reporting system, Hero. An online sharing platform with complementary smart app. Hero allows schools to customise an online environment that enables teachers, students, and families to view and share content anytime, anywhere on any device. The software is secure, easy to use and brings together all school-related information in one place. With Hero, you have the ability to:
- read and comment on posts relating to your child’s learning
- view information on your child’s progress and goals,
- read and comment on school notices sent to the class or groups your child is part of
- respond to school notices such as surveys and trip permission requests
- view school term dates
- view a school calendar of events
- notify the school if your child is absent or late
- navigate to other school-related webpages
- customise your account by adding a profile image
- select how you wish to receive notifications
Initially we will be using HERO for communication. Teachers will be using this term to learn all about HERO's functions and we will aim to make learning goals visible to families from Term 2. Click here to find instructions for signing up to HERO.
We are proud collectors of Yummy stickers at Nukumea Primary School. You can find these stickers on Yummy fruit at your local supermarket.
If you purchase bags of Yummy fruit you may find labels to cut out from the bags that are worth 10 stickers. These stickers are put onto a collection sheet which then gets sent away in exchange for free sports gear for our school! That’s pretty awesome! So, get collecting! A good tip is to place your stickers onto plastic lunch boxes or water bottles during transport to school, if the fruit has already been eaten. Remember, the sticker must say ‘Yummy’ on it. Please bring them along to Kākāriki room and add them to our collection sheet.
Thanks so much for being our foundation community, we are planning some fun events to get to know you all better and will share the dates soon.
