Where we connect Pink Turtle, Lax Girl & Digi

Shaped by Our Experiences

Through this project, we hope to shine light on the shared humanity between those in the free world and those trapped inside of the mass incarceration system. Our goal is to start a conversation about the way we as a society view those deemed "prisoners" and how we can break those stereotypes surrounding that population.

Shared Interests

Music unites us...

Instead of defining ourselves by our differences, we can choose to see the similarities between those of us on the outside and those on the inside.

Our similarities are so much stronger than our differences. If we can shine light on those things that we have in common, we can share humanity and therefore, express compassion for one another. Those on the inside are no less of human beings than we are on the outside and we need to start treating them that way.

Mental Health

As humans we are all extremely vulnerable to our surroundings, including the people we spend time with through the good times and even the more difficult ones as well.

Imagine having all of your power and rights stripped from you... how much more vulnerable would you be to the world around you?

Who is the System Benefitting?

Private Organizations...

at the expense of the humanity of incarcerated individuals, that's who benefits from this system of mass incarceration.

Pink Turtle

There are human beings working for nearly no pay, if anything, on the inside of our prison system and we as a society are not making it any easier for them to find good employment upon release. We invite you to think about the way our society's systems are feeding into mass incarceration and the intentions that drive our prisons today.

Conclusion

Not only is this project about educating the individuals of society about the problems the prison system imposes on those living inside their walls, but it is a cry for help to change the way we talk about the incarcerated and the way we actively participate in the many systems that perpetuate mass incarceration today.
