UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #12

Pre/K1: Building curiosity - We are inquiring about communities and how they impact our lives. Recently, we have started showing interest in astronauts as a class which led us to inquire about what happens in space. Our class has been busy playing space role play areas, creating moon craters and alien saucers. Next, we are reading ‘ Whatever Next’ to further our inquiry about space through Talk4writing.
Y1: How the world works - Currently, we are completing Unit 4 about ‘how the world works’, with a focus on our minds and bodies. The students have been identifying different parts of our bodies, including the skeletal and digestive systems through inquiry. We have completed lots of different science investigations to learn more about how our bodies work. We look forward to the students’ upcoming science demonstrations where they will answer questions they researched about the human body.
Y3: Natural habitats - Our unit has the central idea ’when interacting with natural habitats, humans make choices that have an impact on other living things.’ We have inquired into plastic pollution and how this affects animals. The class made posters showing how rubbish gets into the sea and line graphs showing how the dolphin population has changed. We also explored how much rubbish people create and the Nong Sai rubbish dump in Udon Thani realising that we are generating too much rubbish!
Y5/6: How children face challenges - Our unit has been about how children respond to challenges and risks around the world. The students have been listening to guest speakers talking about their childhoods in different countries. They have also investigated how they might be able to help children in Udon Thani face difficulties in their lives. In Maths the class has been focusing on finding the area of triangles and mastering the use of a protractor.

Student success at UDIS: Jack in Y1

Jack recently participated in the TGA-SINGHA Junior Golf Rankings where he was placed 2nd runner up. Jack is a keen and talented young sportsman, who is driven to be the best he can be in a variety of sports, including golf and football. Well done Jack on your recent achievement. We are very proud of you!

EAL: Celebrating our languages

Our learners have been celebrating cultural diversity by sharing the languages they can speak during the International Mother Language Day Assembly. They have been using their collaboration skills and demonstrating the learner profiles ‘risk-taker’, ‘thinker’ and ‘communicator’ during their presentations and wonderful performances.

Book drive! - The School Library and Y7/8 are organising a book drive. Students are encouraged to bring in two, or more, books to donate to the school (this is voluntary) on 1 March. They can drop these directly in the auditorium. Student’s who donate books will then be able to choose one book from donated books. We encourage all students to participate in this exciting event and help us expand the literary wonders of our school library.
Summer School for 3-7 April - We will be holding three summer school classes from 3-7 April. 3-5 year olds, 5-9 year olds and 10-15 year olds. Please find more information on our website:https://www.udoninternationalschool.com/april-summer-school-2/
