- Now that you’re getting accustomed to campus, make sure that you avail yourself of all opportunities on campus to help you to navigate your experience and make sure you’re on the path to success.
- Don’t forget Student Health, and Student Counseling Services, and Academic Advising, Supplemental Instruction and Tutoring. The first few weeks of the semester can be especially challenging, so reach out and take advantage of the help available to you.
- Check out the art exhibit “Borderland Collective,” currently underway in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery, second floor through Friday, Sept. 30.
- It features the work of artists Mark Menjivar and Jason Reed. The long-term, participatory art, and education project is based in Texas and utilizes collaborations between artists, educators, the youth, and community members to engage in complex social issues. The installation also features a migration stories collaboration alongside TAMIU students.

- This week, TAMIU will be conducting required emergency evacuation. The Office of Environmental Health and Safety, in conjunction with the University Police Department and the Physical Plant.
- During these approximately 15-minute-long drills, flashing lights and a siren or emergency message will be communicated building-wide. You must immediately evacuate the building by following the EXIT signs to your closest exit, then head to your designated emergency assembly area. Return to the building when given the “All Clear” by a UPD Officer. Additional details are posted in Blackboard Announcements.
- This Wednesday, we’ll join colleagues from UTHealth Houston to share news of an innovative partnership with their School of Biomedical Informatics. It’s focused on the Development of Informatics Accelerated Learning in Laredo (DIALL) program. DIALL provides TAMIU students the opportunity to complete a 4+1 graduate certificate and accelerated Master’s program with UTHealth Houston. At completion, students graduate with a Bachelor's degree from TAMIU and a graduate certificate from UTHealth Houston. Join us Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Student Center 236.
- Next week, we’ll welcome our new TAMIU Artist in Residence, Valerie Naranjo to campus. She’s a globally-acclaimed, award-winning percussionist, performer on Broadway and a member of NBC’s Saturday Night Live Band. Here’s an example of her mastery of the Ghanian Gyil instrument. More to come!
- Coming Sept. 15 is an opportunity to better understand the complexities of intellectual property in a day-long workshop Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, hosted by Texas A&M International University’s Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC). The Workshop will look at four tracks that see the most challenges in today’s marketplace: software, mechanical/electrical inventions, consumer products, and art. Registration is $10 and is available at this link.
- ICYMI, TAMIU has been ranked number 4 in the Best Bang for the Buck Rankings: South category of the 2022 Washington Monthly College Rankings. TAMIU was also named to the Best Colleges for Student Voting Honor Roll TAMIU has appeared repeatedly in the Top Ten since 2012. Find out more.

- Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. As the disease also remains a threat to college campuses, TAMIU students are encouraged to remain informed about the disease. TAMIU Repeats, Expands Top National Ranking by Washington Monthly
Once again, TAMIU was recognized as one of the nation's Top Ten-ranked Southern Colleges in Washington Monthly Magazine's 2022 College Guide "Best Bang for the Buck" ranking. TAMIU was ranked #4. Other institutions in the Top 10 ranking included the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley (5), Vanderbilt University (6) and Texas A&M University (7).

TAMIU Welcomes Artist In Residence Valerie Naranjo
Ms. Naranjo is a globally acclaimed, award-winning percussionist, performer on Broadway and longtime member of NBC's Saturday Night Live Band. TAMIU's Artist In Residence initiative is made possible through the Department of Fine and Performing Arts through the College of Arts and Sciences.
TAMIU, UT Health Houston to Announce Biomedical Informatics Program
On Wednesday, Sept. 7, we're joining with our colleagues at UTHealth Houston to share news of an innovative partnership with their School of Biomedical Informatics. Through the University's DIALL program, TAMIU students can complete a 4+1 graduate certificate and accelerated Master’s program with UTHealth Houston. At completion, students graduate with a Bachelor's degree from TAMIU and a graduate certificate from UTHealth Houston.
TAMIU-SBDC Offers Intellectual Property Workshop Sept. 15
An opportunity to better understand the complexities of intellectual property will be the focus of a day-long workshop Thursday, Sept. 15 through TAMIU-SBDC. The Workshop will provide basic information on securing patents, trademarks, and copyrights, includes small group meetings to focus on specific topics, and short one-on-one consultations with intellectual property lawyers. The Workshop cost is $10 per person and includes a light breakfast. It will be held in TAMU’s Student Center Ballroom, room 203.
