"I am delighted to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Sandra Moore, artist/teacher and music educator. I, Dr. Wesley J. Broadnax, am currently Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands/Instrumental Music Education at California State University, East Bay (Hayward, CA). It was here that I became acquainted with Sandra and her wonderful work as an oboe performer, teacher and music pedagogue. She is well known and highly regarded in her field throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, and is consistently in high demand by various public schools, colleges/universities, and community/professional ensemble organizations. Sandra is one of the most musical and artistic oboist/English horn players I have ever had the pleasure of interaction! She has performed throughout the SF Bay Area in numerous symphony orchestras, concert bands, and various chamber ensembles. My initial encounter with her was hiring her as the oboe teacher for my annual CSUEB Instrumental Music Festival, which was a chief recruitment and outreach event hosted by the university. She served as sectional coach for a number of high school oboe students, providing them with the oboe pedagogy that was truly exceptional. This ranged from basic sound production to quality reed making. Many of these students never had such thorough mentoring and training on the oboe, and Sandra's teaching aided in CSUEB gaining about two-thirds of those students to the university! I was extremely pleased with her work in such a setting! Additionally, Sandra's performance skills are of professional and artistic standards! I hired her on two occasions -- to perform with the CSUEB Wind Symphony, English horn on Michael Daugherty's Rosa Parks Boulevard, and on Oboe on Maslanka's Symphony No. 4. On each of her performance occasions, her playing was of the highest artistry, and it helped my current students model her musicianship that dramatically improved their own performance skills that year! Sandra's musical presence is truly infectious and has a way of adding life to any performance situation she is part of. I should also add that Sandra's organizational skills are first rate! She appears to be well prepared for any and all tasks (whether it is teaching or performance) in a strict, methodical fashion. Her teaching and performance reflects this. Given these positive attributes, I HIGHLY recommend Sandra for any and all available employment! She has the right ingredients to be successful in any employment situation she wishes to pursue--strong work ethic, tenacity, high motivation/drive, desire/passion, and delightful personalities that "encourages", rather than "demean." While I am no longer in California, I have missed working and making music with Sandra, but I know her to be a wonderful success wherever her life takes her! Please contact me if you have further questions regarding Sandra Moore." Sincerely, Dr. Wesley J. "I have known Sandra for 6 years as a music instructor for my daughter and as a personal friend. Sandra is highly skilled, disciplined and goal oriented musician, however her talents extend beyond her excellence in music. She is a fine teacher, and has worked successfully with students of all capabilities and experiences to ensure each of her students reaches the highest achievements possible. She worked carefully with my daughter to set short term and long term goals--both musically and personally, then proceeded diligently and thoughtfully with her so she would know the satisfaction of success for goals achieved. Sandra has been warmly received by both adults and children and has repeatedly given generously of her time and talents. In her instruction to my daughter as well as her other students, Sandra was careful not to limit the lesson time to just the musical notes, but taught the breadth and personality of the entire musical piece --the composer, the times, the politics, background and the audience. When preparing her students for local recitals. or regional or state level competitions, Sandra worked with them to ensure that they each had technical command of the compositions to be played, but also worked with students on personal composure, manner, dress, presentation of themselves to adjudicators, and poise. She is patient and understanding when interacting with her students, ready with a smile and encouragement to them, and she is careful to answer their questions without patronizing them. She is quick to point out a positive side of something, to strengthen, and give courage when others might remain silent or demean." - Lisa Selzer, Fremont Parent, Irvington High School

Mrs. Sandra Moore Attending San Jose State University with master instruction from W. Wayne Sorenson and orchestral and Wind Symphony Director, Vernon Reed and William Trimble, she soon found many opportunities to perform with talented colleagues and musicians. Continuing with her musical education she took additional lessons and worked with other oboists finding styles and methods she found fit her tastes but also styles of others she could adapt for specific types of performance. One of her most influential sounds were inspired from Carol Cousineau from the British Academy of Music in the early 1980’s. She performed Oboe and English Horn for plays and shows, bands and symphonic performances under the direction of Jim Schellenberger and the Chabot Symphony, Philip Zahorsky with the Ohlone Symphony, Lawrence Kohl of the San Francisco Chamber Group and Dr. Timothy Smith for the Contra Costa Symphony. Sandra started her career as Oboist for the Fremont Symphony in under the direction of Jason Klein and David Sloss while performing for the CETA Symphony under Jonathan Khuner and Carla Lemmon in her early career. Sandra has served on the Board of Directors for the Fremont Youth Symphony and acting Coach for Woodwinds. After 20 years as principle Oboist with the Ohlone Wind Orchestra she had also been performing with the premiere San Jose Wind Symphony now for over 25 years and San Francisco Wind Symphony. Throughout her career as a performing Oboist and English Horn player she played with hundreds of productions around the greater bay area getting kudos and ovations in every type of performance for wind artists from San Francisco to San Jose and beyond. Throughout Sandra’s professional performances her second love was sharing her knowledge and understanding of music and particularly of the Oboe. Beginning in 1998 she began teaching students full time, young and old in holding private and group seminars and training. Students excelled with her instruction and with impressive top awards at the state level she fostered a great love with the fun she taught with and the students who responded with a superior understanding and performance abilities. Parents and Students loved the fun and learning events she created that also found friendships between the students who loved her classes for the fun they had while learning well above the standard levels. Sandra has been a Member of CMEA and as acting Wood Winds Adjudicator for CMEA State Solo and Ensemble Festival. Today Sandra still performs with the San Jose Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Edward C. Harris (http://www.sjws.org/) and teaches while also performing for many productions, churches and plays. http://mooreandmoorearts.com/music-performance-and-educator.html
"Under Mrs. Moore's care and guidance, and due to her solid effort and dedication in giving the most of what she can offer to teach her students, my daughter became highly skilled, talented and disciplined oboe player. In addition, Mrs. Moore gave her students opportunity to experience and perform in several musical events within California, such as CMEA and California State Solo Festivals. Her students, my daughter included, had received the highest overall ratings in these events, which I can attribute to Mrs. Moores' high level of standard and excellent teaching skills." - Celso Bagaoisan - Union City Parent, Logan High School
"Sandra has been my son's oboe instructor for six years taking him from a complete novice to being a CMEA State Solo Medal Winner and a CBDA State Festival Honor band member. The Oboe is considered a difficult instrument by many, but for Sandra, it is easy and her enthusiasm for music is passed onto her students. Her instruction style has been consistently and patiently work with her students motivating them towards very high standards while still having fun. She is interested in the students achieving their best, and not just musically, but in all of life. She has been a major influence in the development of the character and maturity of my son and we are appreciative." - Ron Fong, Fremont Parent, Mission High School

"I am writing this letter of recommendation for Sandra Moore, inspired musician. She has performed in my bands and orchestras for over 20 years. As a conductor of the various Ohlone College wind groups, I find myself uniquely positioned to evaluate Sandra's musicianship, diligence towards the completion of a task, group loyalty and teamwork." "Sandra has performed as principal oboe/English Horn with the Ohlone Wind Orchestra since its inception. The band is a one-on-apart, semi-pro (most of the players have made music at least and advocation in their lives and a handful of players are active professionals) quality ensemble, which performs five concert sets per season. The repertoire is quite often the most difficult written for wind ensemble. We have premiered new works, backed professional soloists; created three critically acclaimed CD's and received major accolades at various festivals. Sandra has performed all the solo oboe/English Horn solo spots for the duration of her tenure. Ohlone College also produces critically acclaimed musicals every summer season. I have hired Sandra as one of the instrumental professionals in the pit for as many years we've worked together in the bands. Sandra doubles well on both oboe and English horn and has been a critical asset to our many productions over the years. Sandra always meets rehearsal and performance deadlines and has a high level of professional commitment and integrity. It's not easy to succeed under the pressure of soloist with a major performing ensemble; Sandra's exemplary dedication to thorough preparation and attention to detail have rendered her sustained success as a solo artist through the years. I recommend Sandra Moore for any position, business or the artistic, that she feels would be a stimulating employment opportunity. Well beyond her outstanding musicianship, Sandra is at team player and is highly respected and well received by her colleagues. Knowing Sandra as I do, she will bring the same passion and commitment to any and every task assigned. Even more importantly, she has the perspicacity to see the task through to fruition." -Philip C. Zahorsky (Professor Emeritus - Deceased) - Director of Instrumental Music, Ohlone College, Fremont, CA

"My acquaintance with Sandra goes back many years, as she played with the Fremont Symphony Orchestra, of which I was a member. More recently, Sandra served as a coach for the Fremont Youth Symphony while I was General Manager. She was enthusiastic, conscientious, reliable, and an excellent teacher who had a good rapport with her students. She was always accommodating and easy to work with, and was well like by colleagues and parents." - Caryl Dockter, Musician, Fremont Youth Symphony, General Manager
