Thank you for your support of NSCC students. With over 5,000 award applications received from students in 2022, we know the need is strong. More than ever, with the rising cost of living, your financial support of students' education and career dreams is helping them to achieve success. Your award is boosting students' motivation and determination - telling them they're on the right track. Your support is showing them that people in their communities care about them. That their success matters.
Your generosity and care for NSCC students has a profound impact in communities across Nova Scotia. As students reach graduation and move into meaningful careers, they're able to support their families, contribute to the prosperity of their communities, and in turn, grow our province as a whole. On behalf of all NSCC students, thank you for your incredible commitment to community. Your support will be felt for generations to come.
Weeks Construction Community Award Recipients
Chase F.
Electro Mechanical Technician, Pictou Campus
“My mother has worked for Week's Construction Ltd for over 16 years and I was fortunate to be hired by them for the summer. I am a very hard worker, responsible and have been trying to save as much as I can to cover the cost of my tuition so my parents don't have to. This award has brought me closer to that goal and I appreciate it more than I can say. I will work and study hard to confirm you made a good choice in selecting me to receive it.”
“One of the reasons I chose to take this course is because of my father. He is a big influence on my life and has had a big impact on how I grew up and the things I enjoy. We live on a farm, no animals but we grow crops for sale - hay and oats and we also have a raspberry and high bush blueberry u-pick. There's always stuff to do on the farm from early spring to late fall. My parents are the hardest working people around and do everything they can to provide for me and my brothers and help look after my grandfather. On our family farm we have older equipment as well as equipment my dad has built over the years. I have grown up watching him fix and build machines and learned to help him with their maintenance over the years. It's hard work and a lot of responsibility for them and they've been the best example of the person I hope to become.
When I was trying to decide what direction to go in for a career choice, my parent’s told me to choose something that I enjoy so it never feels like work or an obligation. I'm never afraid of a challenge or trying something new and hope to find work that will let me do just that. I took a few trade/technology courses in high school and really liked them so I knew this was the right choice for me. My dad also took this course so it makes me proud to follow in his footsteps. This award will lessen the financial burden on my parents and allow me to complete this course with very little debt. As a young man trying to figure out his life, I am grateful for the blessing and help this award brings.”
Mekayla G.
Social Services, Pictou Campus
“My goal for the future is to become a children's aid worker, and help children and families. I wish to bring families together using the education I receive from the NSCC Social Services program. This award will ensure I make it to class every day, and not miss any class time. I would like to say thank you - I am a single mother who is in real need of this award.”
Thank you for being part of NSCC students' success.
