AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Dr. Yuanyuan Zhang

Dr. Zhang joined the School of Leadership in January 2022 as an Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering Technology. Welcome, Dr. Zhang!

Dr. Yuanyuan Zhang recently secured a $130,000 national highway grant for her study on An Automated System for Pedestrian Facility Data Collection from Aerial Images funded as part of the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), IDEA program, the first such grant awarded to a Mississippi university. The project has been chosen as one of the notable examples and published in the funding agency’s report of Products with an Impact or Potential Impact on Current Highway Practice: Notable Examples.

Additionally, Dr. Zhang completed a Certificate in Machine Learning at Stanford University in December 2021.

Kendall Levens

Kendall Levens, HCD M.S. alumna, recently accepted a new position as Talent Acquisition Partner at Hanger, Inc in Austin, TX.

Bobby Lamb

Bobby Lamb, HCD M.S. alumnus, recently accepted a position as Apprentice Training Representative with the United States Department of Labor.

Dr. Ginger Robbins

Dr. Ginger Robbins, HCD Ph.D. alumna, was recently named Executive Director of Legislative Affairs at Hinds Community College.

Joyce Powell

Joyce Powell earned the Basic Professional Standards Program certificate on January 31, 2022. This certificate program is based on the completion of prescribed requirements in education, experience, and professional activities as part of the National Association of Educational Office Professionals.

Joyce Powell was a recipient of a USM Coastal Operations Staff Development Award in December 2021. She was awarded $1,000 in funding for attendance at the 2022 Women in Higher Education Mississippi Network (WHEMN) conference in Oxford, MS. Attendance at WHEMN provided the opportunity for Joyce to further develop her skills and perform even more effectively in her new role as Assistant Director of the School of Leadership.

Wendi Lord

Wendi Lord, current HCD (ITD) Ph.D. student, was selected as a top 8 finalist for the 2021 Three-Minute Thesis Competition! She presented “Flourishing at Work Using Technology-Assisted Visualization.”

Dr. Chiquila Dolison

Dr. Chiquila Dolison, HCD Ph.D. alumna, accepted the position of Acquisitions Specialist with The University of Southern Mississippi in University Libraries at the Hattiesburg campus.

Dr. Janea McDonald

Dr. Janea McDonald, HCD Ph.D. alumna, recently completed the Conscious Capitalism certification through Babson College. She is currently serving as Director of Human Capital, Lindmark Outdoor Media and Owner of Edge Consulting.

Gizzatta Johnson

Gizzatta Johnson, a current HCD Ph.D. student, accepted the position of Principal Human Resource Business Partner with Northrop Grumman Corporation within the Global Sustainment & Modernization Division at its Aircraft Maintenance and Fabrication Center (AMFC) located in Lake Charles, LA.

David Seyi Akanbi

David Seyi Akanbi, a current HCD Ph.D. student, accepted a new position as the HR Learning and Development Specialist in the Office of Agency Services (OAS), Learning and Organizational Change Team (LOC) of the Farm Credit Administration (FCA) in McLean, VA. This position supports all FCA learning and development programs and resources and manages blended learning services that address workforce development and continuing education needs across all disciplines and levels of the organization for FCA employees. The role serves as a learning resource to FCA management and its workforce for learning, performance management, succession planning, leadership, and workforce development issues and collaborates across the agency to identify and meet strategic goals and objectives.

Top Online Master's Program in Human Resources

Human Capital Development Program Ranked #1

OnlineMastersDegrees.org (OMD) analyzed more than 7,700 schools using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Their data science team created an algorithm to rank these schools in 70 unique master's degree subjects. To qualify, a school must hold active regional accreditation and have both academic counseling and career placement services available to students. Primary ranking factors included availability of programs with an online component, number of programs in subject area, and metrics considering cost as well as the impact of institutional aid.

PUBLICATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS

Dr. Gregory Bradley

Dr. Gregory Bradley, who serves as Associate Teaching Professor of Management in the School of Leadership, presented "The Entrepreneurial Mindset" to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce as part of their professional development series in October.

Dr. Bradley also conducted a workshop on strategic planning and organizational development for Keesler AFB non-commissioned officers in November.

Wendi Lord

Wendi Lord, a current HCD(ITD) Ph.D. student published an article, A Disruption in Personal Development: Using Appreciative Inquiry During the Pandemic to Identify Aspirations and Inspire Action in AI Practitioner, the international journal produced by David Cooperrider's Center of Excellence. Courtney Isgett

Courtney Isgett, a current HCD(ITD) Ph.D. student, presented her research titled "Challenges Regarding Assistive Technology in Special Education" at the virtual 10th International Conference of Educational Innovation through Technology (EITT) in December 2021. CORY WICKER

Cory Wicker, a current HCD Ph.D. student, published his article The Trenches and Valleys of Corporate America: A Black Male Human Resource Leader’s Autoethnographic Account in Advances in Developing Human Resources (ADHR) journal. (doi.org/10.1177/15234223211037762)

Dr. Shuyan Wang

Dr. Shuyan Wang, Professor of Instructional Technology and Design, delivered a Keynote Speech "How to Promote Effective Learning: The Practice from an Online Course" at the 2021 Learning Sciences and Future Education Forum, Beijing, China (virtual) in November 2021.

Dr. Wang also co-authored two articles presented at the 10th International Conference of Educational Innovation through Technology (EITT 2021) in December 2021 in Chongqing, China (virtual), and published in the conference proceedings:

Service Project

The School of Leadership faculty, staff, students, and alumni collected over $1,000 in donations (cash + items) for the Golden Basket initiative held in December 2021. This event provided gift cards, food, clothing, and household items for local Southern Miss students in need. Thank you to all who participated!
